The neonatal nursing role focuses on supporting premature and sick newborns across special care, high dependency, and intensive care, while partnering with families and the wider multidisciplinary team to deliver holistic care and continuous professional development within a values-driven trust.

Responsibilities

• Deliver safe, effective, and compassionate nursing care to neonates requiring special, high dependency, and intensive care.
• Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualised care programmes for infants and their families.
• Work in partnership with parents and carers, promoting family-integrated and family-centred care.
• Maintain a safe, clean, and supportive environment for babies, families, and staff.
• Collaborate effectively with medical, nursing, and multidisciplinary colleagues to ensure coordinated care delivery.
• Recognise and respond appropriately to changes in a baby's clinical condition, escalating concerns as required.
• Support and educate parents and carers to enable their involvement in the care of their baby.
• Participate in clinical governance, quality improvement, and service development activities.
• Maintain accurate, timely, and comprehensive patient records.
• Participate in ongoing learning and development to enhance clinical knowledge, skills, and leadership capabilities.
• Act in accordance with the NMC Code, Trust policies, and national neonatal standards.
