Job description

At OQC, we aren’t just theorising about the future; we’re building it. Born from a philosophy of bold innovation, we’ve successfully transitioned quantum computing from an academic dream into a commercial reality. The most exciting thing is that we’re just getting started.

The Mission

As a Nanofabrication Technician, you’ll play a critical role in supporting the smooth, safe, and efficient operation of our nanofabrication laboratory. Working closely with our Nanofabrication Engineers, you’ll help maintain the high operational standards required to fabricate next‑generation superconducting quantum devices.

You’ll be hands‑on in the lab environment, ensuring equipment, materials, and processes are prepared and maintained to enable world‑class experimental outcomes.

The Role

You’ll join the Materials Science & Device Engineering team, supporting the day‑to‑day running of our nanofabrication facilities and contributing to the production of cutting‑edge electronic superconductor devices.

What You’ll Be Working On
  • Supporting the daily operation of the fabrication lab, including preparing wafers, glassware, solutions, and experimental setups
  • Maintaining cleanroom and laboratory standards to ensure a safe, organised, and efficient working environment
  • Monitoring stock levels, consumables, and equipment supplies to ensure uninterrupted lab operations
  • Supporting fabrication processes including wafer cleaning, resist spinning, photolithography, etching, and deposition monitoring
  • Performing quality assurance checks on internally and externally fabricated wafers, documenting and reporting findings
  • Following and contributing to health & safety procedures, chemical handling standards, and laboratory best practices
  • Documenting experimental work, process observations, and operational activities in line with team standards
What We’re Looking For
  • Experience working in a laboratory or cleanroom environment
  • Strong attention to detail and excellent manual dexterity when handling delicate materials and equipment
  • Ability to follow strict health & safety and chemical handling procedures
  • Experience maintaining accurate laboratory documentation and records
  • Organised and proactive approach to managing workloads and priorities
  • Strong time management skills with the ability to work independently
  • Comfortable supporting scientific or engineering experimental processes
  • Self‑motivated with a collaborative mindset and willingness to continuously improve processes
The 'Nice-to-Haves'
  • Experience working within nanofabrication environments
  • Experience with stock control and laboratory inventory management
  • Familiarity with superconducting device fabrication processes
  • Experience writing or contributing to risk assessments and H&S procedures
  • Degree or equivalent qualification in Science, Engineering, or a related discipline
  • Experience planning or devising scientific experiments
Why Join OQC

You will join a world‑class team at the forefront of the next computational era. We offer a culture of bold innovation, the chance to work with unique lab infrastructure, and the opportunity to see your work redefine the limits of computation.
