About the Client/Child

Tom (11) and Chris (5) live with their mum and dad in a lovely part of North London. Chris, until recently, attended a local primary school full-time, while Tom is currently home educated. Tom is a passionate and skilled gamer who enjoys playing on his PC. He also loves watching TV and has a growing interest in biology. Tom is supported daily by a tutor, a Buddy/Personal Assistant who spends a few hours with him each evening, and an SEN Manny who provides full-time support. He also has a boxing coach who visits twice a week. Tom has diagnoses of autism, anxiety, depression, Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA), and Emotionally Based School Avoidance (EBSA). He finds loud noises, certain foods, leaving the house, crowded environments, and unexpected changes to his routine particularly challenging. Chris is a lively and chatty child who has recently been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and shows some traits of ADHD. He is also experiencing EBSA and is currently finding it difficult to leave the house, which has been a challenging time for the family. In addition, Chris requires support to use the toilet independently.

The Role at a Glance

We are looking for a confident and experienced part-time SEN Nanny/Manny to join the warm and collaborative team supporting Tom and Chris during weekends. This role is ideal for someone with a strong background in working with young people with autism and anxiety, and who shares a genuine interest in gaming—a key connection point with both boys. The primary focus is to build a trusting, co-regulatory relationship with Tom and Chris. Tom can become overwhelmed at times, which may lead to emotional dysregulation such as crying or seeking solitude. A calm, consistent presence is essential to help him navigate these moments with reassurance and care. He enjoys relaxing through video games, chatting, and watching TV. Chris is also a keen gamer. Weekends offer opportunities for play and relationship-building, which includes arranging and hosting playdates with friends. Tom and Chris can sometimes dysregulate each other when spending time together, so these moments will need to be managed thoughtfully. During the occasional evening support, Chris’s bedtime is at 7.00pm and supporting this routine calmly and consistently is important. Once Chris is settled, the focus shifts to co-regulating with Tom—checking that he has eaten enough and offering additional food if needed before bed. This is a collaborative household, and a team-oriented mindset is essential. Clear communication, empathy, and consistency are key to supporting the boys effectively and contributing positively to their environment.
