Job Summary

Hertfordshire Musculoskeletal Service is currently seeking a Band 8a Musculoskeletal Advanced Physiotherapy Practitioner (APP) to work within the MSK Clinical, Assessment and Treatment Service (MSKCATS) in North Hertfordshire. This role offers an opportunity to develop specialist clinical musculoskeletal expertise and leadership skills as part of an experienced out‑patient integrated service. Regular supervision and CPD opportunities are provided.

Key Responsibilities
  • Act as primary decision‑maker in triage of orthopaedic, pain and rheumatology referrals from GPs and allied health professionals, traditionally seen by a consultant.
  • Conduct highly specialised comprehensive assessments of patients with complex and diverse conditions.
  • Utilise dexterity, coordination and palpatory skills for assessment and manual treatment.
  • Apply evidence‑based clinical reasoning to develop and implement appropriate management plans.
  • Initiate and interpret specialist investigations (X‑ray, ultrasound, MRI) to aid diagnosis.
  • Prescribe and administer injections (e.g., cortico‑steroid, local anaesthetic) for treatment and diagnostic purposes.
  • Provide specialist treatment within the MSK multidisciplinary service or refer to other services as required.
Key Qualifications & Experience
  • HCPC registration.
  • Degree in Physiotherapy or equivalent.
  • Specialist post‑graduate qualifications relevant to the role.
  • Masters degree or equivalent clinical practice experience, or willingness to undertake such study.
  • Minimum 5 years post‑registration experience in a specialist musculoskeletal role.
  • Participation in service development, including audit.
  • Excellent organisational ability and capability to work autonomously.
  • Evidence of CPD activity, particularly in area of specialism.
  • Experience in staff management and providing supervision, training, and support to colleagues.
Employment Details

Band: 8a. Salary: £55,690 – £62,682 per annum pro rata. Contract: Permanent. Working pattern: Part‑time, job share.

Locations: North Hertfordshire/Letchworth and Stevenage, Howlands, Welwyn Garden City, AL7 4HQ.
