Job summary

A leading manufacturing company in the UK is seeking a Mechanical Engineer responsible for diagnosing and repairing breakdowns in a high-volume environment. Candidates must have an NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Engineering and proven experience in manufacturing, preferably in food or consumer goods. The role includes following safety protocols, maintaining quality standards, and collaborating with teams for continuous improvement. This is a double day shift position ensuring efficient production.

Qualifications

  • Time-served Engineer with minimum NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Proven experience in a high-volume manufacturing environment, ideally within food or consumer goods.
  • Strong fault-finding, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills across mechanical and electrical systems.

Responsibilities

  • Follow all PPE, LOTO, and safe working procedures, ensuring compliance with standards.
  • Maintain GMP, HACCP, and food safety standards, ensuring audit readiness.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical and control breakdowns; execute planned maintenance.
  • Collaborate with Production and Quality teams to enhance equipment reliability.

Job description

Mechanical Engineer is responsible for the first-level escalation of breakdowns within the factory, working as part of the shift engineering team to ensure mechanical, electrical and control issues are resolved promptly. The role also includes completion of preventative maintenance work orders to support continuous production efficiency.

Shift pattern: double day shift (06:00‑14:00 wk1 / 13:45‑22:00 wk2). Location: Haddenham, UK (Oxfordshire), McCormick & Company.

Responsibilities
  • Health & Safety: Follow all PPE, LOTO and safe working procedures, ensuring compliance with company and legal standards.
  • Quality & Compliance: Maintain GMP, HACCP and food safety standards, ensuring accurate documentation and audit readiness.
  • Operational Excellence: Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical and control breakdowns; execute planned maintenance and record activities in CMMS.
  • Continuous Improvement: Collaborate with Production and Quality teams to enhance equipment reliability, product quality and operational performance.
