Job summary

A leading railway operator in Exeter is seeking a skilled technician to carry out modifications and repairs on Diesel Multiple Units. The ideal candidate will have an NVQ3 or suitable apprenticeship in mechanical or electrical works, and experience in fault finding. This position offers opportunities to work with various rolling stock types in a collaborative and inclusive environment.

What you'll be doing
  • Carrying out Modifications to GWR Diesel Multiple Units
  • Completing repairs to GWR Diesel Multiple Units
  • Overhauling sub systems of GWR Diesel Multiple Units
  • Repairing Electrical Components in our Electrical Test Room
  • Assisting with complex defect investigations
  • When required, supporting production teams with the delivery of units for service, including the completion of Service, Quality & Customer Environment defects.
  • Assisting the technical team with the improvement of written maintenance procedures.
Who we're looking for

  • Able to fault find on mechanical and electrical systems
  • Able to write logical reports and complete documentation in a clear and logical manner.
  • Used to working in an environment where deadlines are important

  • A quick learner and able to work using your own initiative
  • Proficient in the use of IT systems
  • Able to work regular night shifts
As a minimum you'll need to have
  • NVQ3 or a suitable mechanical/ electrical or multi skilled apprenticeship
  • Ideally suitable experience from a rolling stock background or transferable experience from a similar industry
  • Experienced in working in a continuous improvement environment.

This would be an excellent opportunity for a colleague to gain experience of working on West fleet units including 150s, 158s, 165s and 166s.
