Job summary

Rydon Maintenance is seeking a Fabric Engineer / Building Maintenance Operative to support NHS repairs and maintenance across sites between Swindon and Salisbury. You will work in a mobile capacity providing reactive, planned, and preventive maintenance across hospital facilities.

The role requires hands-on maintenance experience, a valid UK driving licence, and a proactive approach to safety. Competitive benefits and a company van are included, with opportunities for career progression.

Qualifications

• Previous relevant experience in the maintenance of buildings.
• Experience in NHS or healthcare facilities is preferred.
• Must have a full UK driving licence.

Responsibilities

• Perform reactive maintenance and weekly/monthly PPMs (e.g. emergency lighting, water temperatures, fire alarm testing).
• Carry out repair and maintenance tasks (doors, taps, TMV servicing/replacement, cabinets, pipework, etc.).
• Contribute to planned upgrade works and refurbishments for safety and service continuity.
• Receive jobs, complete risk assessments, and close jobs in real time using a handheld device (PDA).
• Join the out-of-hours call-out rota for emergencies; standard hours are 8am–5pm, Monday to Friday.

Overview

We now have a great opportunity for a Fabric Engineer / Building Maintenance Operative to join our South West based NHS repairs and maintenance team which delivers a first-class repairs service in partnership with this NHS Trust. You will join our highly regarded repairs team to provide reactive, planned and preventative maintenance.

Rydon Maintenance is an expanding division of the Rydon Group which within our healthcare division we provide hard facilities management services across the NHS on a unique partnering agreement basis. For over 40 years, we've recruited talented and innovative people to maintain more than 250 buildings on behalf of 20 NHS Trusts on a planned and responsive repairs and small works projects basis. We provide maintenance services to hospital's, ambulance trusts, primary care trusts as well as mental health trusts.

Job Purpose

Working in a mobile role, as Maintenance Operative, you will be responsible for maintaining a number of hospital/healthcare sites between Swindon and Salisbury. You will work as part of a highly skilled maintenance team and you will have the opportunity to be involved in many aspects of reactive works and planned preventative maintenance (PPM's).

Key Responsibilities Include;

• Reactive maintenance and weekly/monthly PPM's such as emergency lighting, water temperature temps, fire alarm testing
• Repair and maintenance work could include repairing doors and frames, changing taps, washers, TMV servicing/replacement, installing and repairing cabinets and wall based units, replacing pipework, skirting and boxing, sentinel checks, lamp changes, replacing locks and other repairs to the fabric of the building.
• There will also be some planned maintenance activities such as planned upgrade works and refurbishment as part of our ongoing efforts to ensure a safe environment for service users.
• Use the provided handheld PDA to receive jobs, complete risk assessments, and close jobs in real time.
• Be part of the out of hours call out rota for emergency and make safe repairs (which offers the opportunity to increase your earnings and be involved in additional urgent repairs). Normal working hours are 8am to 5:00pm Monday to Friday.

Experience Required

The successful candidate will have previous relevant experience in the maintenance of buildings. Ideally this experience might have been gained working directly for the NHS, or a maintenance contractor providing services within the NHS. Experience gained within other commercial settings will also be considered (ie, offices, supermarkets, hotels etc)

You will have solid Health & Safety awareness and experience of using a handheld device (PDA). You will also have excellent customer service skills and be passionate about providing high quality repairs/planned maintenance.

This is a mobile opportunity (and as such a full driving licence is required).
