A position has become available working in our Café Lomas within Stratford Hospital, with the possible need to work on our ward doing patient feeding and helping with domestic cleaning duties.
The successful applicant will help prepare and sell food and drinks for patients, visitors and staff. They will need to deliver a high-quality catering service, maintaining a clean and safe environment in accordance with the specification.
This role is 30 hours, to be discussed at the interview. Café Lomas is a healthy living, community-focused food and drink provider situated in Building One Stratford Hospital.
The post holder will prepare and sell food and beverage items for patients, visitors and staff in our retail area of Café Lomas.
To provide a high-quality catering service both in the Café and patient feeding and domestic service, maintaining a clean and safe environment in accordance with the specification.
Responsibilities
- Work with the team to ensure the smooth and successful day-to-day running of Café Lomas.
- Preparation of menu items in readiness of service times.
- Freshly prepare and serve food to order.
- Support the Café Lomas Coordinator and team with day-to-day administration including cash handling using an EPOS till and card machine, ordering and receiving supplies and retail stock.
- Follow the monitoring systems as detailed in the HACCP.
- Ensure good stock rotation and the security of said stock.
- Adhere to the cleaning schedule and to ensure "clean as you go" rules are followed, ensuring the kitchen and front of house are always clean and tidy.
- Report discovered defects within the Café Lomas area.
- Use electronic cash register and coffee barista machine, adhering to training given and standing financial instructions.
- Provide a polite and courteous service and always be aware of customers' needs and special requirements such as allergens.
- Monitor and collate customer requests and feedback using the documentation as instructed.
- Oversee the work of volunteers, delegating tasks as appropriate.
- Report any injury or accident to the Café Lomas Coordinator.
- Be aware of conditions associated with a working kitchen, physical, hot and exposed to dirt, dust and noise. Always wear PPE.
- Ensure all work procedures are in line with the good practice of The South Warwickshire NHS Trust and data protection rules are adhered to.
- Adhere to all Trust policy, Food Hygiene Policy and associated codes of practice and Food Hygiene legislation.
Patient Catering
- Food preparation area ensuring patient meals are made ready and collated together in readiness for transport to the wards.
- Maneuver and transport trolley of food products and lift large, heavy boxes of food products.
- Exposure to cold temperatures when retrieving food products from fridges and freezers.
Cleaning
- Use a variety of cleaning materials and manoeuvre trolleys containing cleaning equipment as well as mechanical cleaning equipment.
- Maintain the standards of cleanliness and hygiene expected by our client at the Hospital.
- Maintain clean and safe equipment in accordance with the specification and be responsive to service needs as they arise.
- Carry out duties both in patient and non-patient environments and may also entail specialised cleaning tasks.
- Be responsive to service needs as they arise and constantly seek to improve productivity and quality of the service.
- All work must be undertaken in line with health, safety, security and Company and Trust policies and procedures, including infection control.
- Work in an environment where exposure to sensitive circumstances may occur.
- Ensure compliance with all Company policies, procedures and statutory regulations including human resources, site rules, Health & Safety, safe working practices, hygiene, cleanliness, fire and COSHH.
Qualifications
- Customer service experience face to face and via the telephone.
- Ability to communicate effectively within a team.
- Ability to monitor and collate data efficiently.
- Experience of keeping accurate records for audit on orders, deliveries, cleaning, food hygiene related systems and food waste.
- Knowledge of food hygiene measured by Level 2 in food hygiene plus ongoing refresher training.
- Manual handling.
- Health & Safety at work.
- Knowledge of COSHH.
- Epos Till System.
- Awareness of food allergies and dietary requirements and confident accessing this information.
- A genuine interest in food and nutrition and working in a busy community setting.
- Ability to bake and sound knowledge of cooking procedures.
