Multiskilled Engineer (Electrical or Mechanical Bias)
Salary: £45,000 - £50,000
Working Pattern: Monday - Friday
Location: Shopping Centre
Additional: Call‑out rota (1 in 3) and weekend working (1 in 3 weekends) to be introduced next year, with days off in lieu during the week.
Purpose of the Job
To deliver high‑quality reactive and planned maintenance services within a busy shopping centre environment. The role is suitable for an Electrical or Mechanical biased Multiskilled Engineer who can work effectively on a highly reactive site, ensuring building services, plant, and fabric are maintained to a high standard while meeting client SLAs.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out reactive maintenance, planned preventative maintenance (PPM), and minor project works across building services.
- Act as a technically competent Electrical or Mechanical biased engineer, while supporting other disciplines where required.
- Operate efficiently in a fast‑paced, reactive retail environment.
- Accurately log, update, and close work orders using the site CAFM system, ensuring SLA compliance.
- Undertake minor installation works, fault finding, repairs, and building fabric maintenance.
- Monitor and assess condition of plant and equipment, recommending remedial actions.
- Escort, supervise, and manage specialist contractors, ensuring work quality and safety compliance.
- Issue and manage permits to work where required.
- Escalate faults, risks, and incidents to site management in line with agreed procedures.
- Complete incident reports, handover documentation, and technical reports.
- Ensure compliance with all statutory regulations, health & safety requirements, and client procedures.
- Assist with sourcing materials, managing spares, and supporting quotations for additional works.
- Participate in the call‑out rota and weekend working when implemented.
- Maintain clear communication with centre management, retailers, contractors, and the engineering team.
Personal Experience / Qualifications / Skills
- Recognised technical qualification in Electrical or Mechanical discipline (City & Guilds / NVQ Level 3 or equivalent).
- Electrical bias candidates: 18th Edition desirable.
- Mechanical bias candidates: strong HVAC / plant knowledge desirable.
- Proven experience in a reactive commercial maintenance environment, ideally retail or shopping centres.
- Strong working knowledge of CAFM systems (essential).
- Multiskilled capability across M&E and basic building fabric.
- Good understanding of permit‑to‑work systems and health & safety regulations.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong customer service and communication skills.
- Flexible, proactive approach with willingness to learn and support out‑of‑hours cover.
- Basic IT literacy and confidence using maintenance systems and reporting tools.
Accountabilities
- Accountable to the Contract Manager and Site Supervisor.
- No direct line management responsibility.
- No direct budgetary responsibility.
- Responsible for maintaining appropriate stocks of spares and consumables, ensuring secure storage and controlled issue.
