Job description
Role Overview

The post-holder will participate in the effective and safe running of the MRI department at Barts Health NHS Trust, delivering specialist MRI scans within a 7‑day 24‑hour service. The role includes supervising senior radiographers, imaging assistants, students and visitors, ensuring patient flow, and engaging with clinical teams to unblock scanning barriers.

Responsibilities
  • Perform a wide range of specialist MRI scans during extended hours.
  • Supervise and support band 6 radiographers, imaging assistants, students and visitors.
  • Actively manage patient flow, including emergency and in‑patient referrals, to secure same‑day scanning.
  • Govern patient safety by reviewing protocols, checking conditional devices, booking sedated and GA patients, and liaising with radiologists and clinicians.
  • Address and diffuse patient or carer complaints to maintain satisfaction and quality experience.
  • Participate in on‑call and out‑of‑hours work as required by the role.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Accredited postgraduate training in MRI.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience as a senior radiographer in MRI.
  • Proven ability to train and engage radiographers, review and implement new scanning protocols in partnership with radiologists.
  • Demonstrated current awareness of MRI safety, especially concerning devices and implants.
