Position

MPI Exeter is seeking experienced Machine Operators to join our Pipe Fabrication and Machining operation. The Machine Operators are responsible for measuring, threading, and adjusting flange fit and facing the flange on pieces of ductile or steel pipe. The position will require the use of all types of manual machine tools, such as lathes and threaders. Work also includes operating the machines and cranes to move pipe in and out of machining centers.

Scope of Responsibilities
  • Ensuring personal safety and the safety of your team members.
  • Assist supervisors and managers in maintaining a safe and healthy work environment.
  • Wear appropriate PPE which may include fall protection, respiratory protection, hearing protection, foot, hand, head and eye protection.
  • Responsible for cleanliness of the assigned work area.
  • Proactively promote the McWane Way principles.
  • Follow all processes and procedures associated with the Waterman Safety Management Program. Inform management of any deviations from this program.
  • Identify fabrication requirements for each piece of pipe.
  • Operate forklift to move pipe inside/outside the plant.
  • Operate pipe cut off saw.
  • Place pipe in machine, center the pipe, and tighten for work. After the pipe is in place, machine tapered threads into the pipe. Verify measurements such as thread depth and taper accuracy.
  • Test the flange after threading to ensure it screws onto the pipe accurately.
  • Apply glue on pipe and flange and use the machine to tighten the flange onto the pipe.
  • For Threaders – Remove pipe from machine and move to next processing operation.
  • For Lathes – run the cutting tool across the surface of the flange to flush fit the flange onto the pipe.
  • Work with pipe and flanges primarily from 3″ to 24″ in diameter, and lengths from 6 inches to 18 feet.
  • Proficient with quality and able to meet prescribed production output objectives for the work center.
  • Paint and package finished product.
  • Read a tape measure and micrometer; basic math skills.
  • Understand machinery processes; maintain consistent attendance.
  • Help and volunteer across a variety of different machines; maintain a positive, hard-working attitude.
Work Environment
  • Stand, walk, and use hands to handle or feel objects; communicate verbally and in writing in English.
  • Occasionally reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Lift and/or move up to 10 pounds regularly, up to 25 pounds frequently, and up to 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Adhere to PPE requirements (steel-toed boots, safety glasses, hearing protection) and work in dust and fumes.
  • Overtime and extended hours may be required; outdoor work in all weather conditions; loud noises.
  • Operate forklift or overhead crane and maintain knowledge of industrial tools, their uses, and maintenance.
  • Specific vision abilities include close, peripheral, and depth perception; ability to adjust focus.
Qualifications
  • 1-3 years of experience in a similar role.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Experience as a machine operator in manufacturing.
  • Computer skills.
Position Requirements
  • Physical requirements include standing, walking, stooping, balancing, kneeling, reaching, and sitting.
  • Must wear appropriate PPE and work in conditions of heat, cold, noise, and vibration.
  • Must be able to operate forklift or overhead crane.
  • Possible overtime and extended hours depending on customer and company demands.
  • Must be able to work outside in all weather conditions and tolerate loud noises.
  • Knowledge of industrial tools, their uses, and maintenance.
Working Hours and Benefits
  • Schedule: M-F 5:00 am – 1:30 pm
  • Starting Hourly Rate: $22.33
  • After 6 Months: $22.86
  • After 1 Year: $23.40
  • Benefits include 9 paid holidays plus 2 floating holidays, 3 weeks vacation, weekly pay, 401k, health insurance, Education Assistance, Wellness Program, and Employee Assistance Program.
