As a Moving& Handling Advisor, you will report to the Head of Community and SchoolTherapies. Your role will be to provide clinical moving and handlingconsultation and clinical leadership to the Multidisciplinary Team, supportingchildren and young people with neurodisabilities and neurodevelopmentalconditions accessing The Childrens Trust School, neurorehabilitation, andresidential services.
The roleof Moving and Handling Advisor (Clinical) is to provide clinical moving andhandling consultation and clinical leadership to the Multidisciplinary Team,supporting children and young people with neurodisabilities andneurodevelopmental conditions accessing The Childrens Trust School,neurorehabilitation, and residential services.
You willprovide high quality; evidence based moving and handling risk assessments andpromote safe systems of work. The rolewill offer formal training to internal staff, as well as child/ young personspecific consultation around safe moving and handling assessment, guidance andequipment use. Additionally, you willprovide effective communication and training within House-basedmultidisciplinary teams. Our servicedelivery aims to promote outcome focussed interventions, safe care, function,and participation, of children and young people accessing The Childrens Trustclinical services

Leadthe provision of high quality, evidence based moving and handling consultationfor children and young people attending The Childrens Trust School andrehabilitation services, in partnership with other members of themultidisciplinary team and education services.
Undertakespecialist moving and handling risk assessments of children with highly complexneeds e.g., multiple co-morbidities, neurodisability and chronic conditions,through standardised and non-standardised assessments and clinicalobservations.
Monitorand review the moving and handling risk assessment processes, documentation,and reporting system.
Deviseand support moving and handling plans that fit within the childs dailyroutine, whether to be carried out by parents or members of theMultidisciplinary Team; these should be monitored, evaluated, and adjustedappropriately according to the needs of the child.
Developgoals in collaboration with the child and family, as well as the multidisciplinaryand education teams, other health professionals and external agencies, tofacilitate participation in their environment.
Teach,integrate, and monitor safe moving and handling techniques, whether they arecarried out by parents, school staff, therapy staff, nursing, or care staff.
Assessfor and organise provision of necessary moving and handling equipment. This may be loaned equipment for use at TheChildrens Trust or recommendations for equipment for long-term use on return tohome.
Keepappropriate and accurate intervention records, fulfilling legal, professionaland all other requirements of The Childrens Trust.
Providereporting on training and assessment compliance, sharing information with theHealth & Safety and clinical asset team.
Implementthe moving and handling policy approach to MDT working across the site
Reporton moving and handling key performance indicators, feeding into ClinicalGovernance Develop and implement audits on moving and handling documentation toensure it is kept up to date, complies with statutory requirements and is fitfor purpose.
Ensurethat findings from audits and inspections are presented in such a way as tohighlight good practice and support learning.
Becomea member of the National Back Exchange, providing feedback to Moving &Handling Coordinators and Moving & Handling Risk Assessors from attendingrelevant conferences.
Provideleadership (within the context of moving and handling) across The ChildrensTrust.
Bea positive and inspirational role model for all team members.
Workclosely with all members of the Multidisciplinary Team, as well as the childand family, to provide a fully integrated approach to the overall management ofthe child. This will include anyhome/school visits, professional child related meetings and/ or appointments,as required.
Workflexibly in terms of hours, in order to meet the needs of the service,including the ability to work an early evening (weekly) and one weekend day,per calendar month if required.
Assess,evaluate, and recommend transition plans for children/young people within theinterdisciplinary team framework.
Representthe Therapy Team and The Childrens Trust when appropriate, deputising for theTherapy Leadership Team, as required.
Activelyparticipate in and support the running of relevant meetings.
Providecover / support to the Clinical Team relevant to your discipline if and whenthe need arises, demonstrating a flexible approach.
Provideregular teaching to internal clinical staff for induction and moving andhandling refresher annual updates.Develop and adapt lesson plans which meet regulatory requirementstogether with any specific needs identified through clinical work.
Linkwith training and development team to ensure mandatory training compliance ismet.
Communication
Facilitateeffective communication with families and members of the Multidisciplinary Team.
Recognisebarriers to communication and to be able to reduce these as appropriate.
Beable to discuss challenging and emotive subjects with families andchildren/young people, regarding long-term needs and possible outcomes.
Communicateregularly and effectively with the Heads of Therapy.
Maintainclear and concise documents and records, in accordance with The ChildrensTrust polices.
Ensuredocuments are managed confidentially at all times.
Involvechildren and families in areas of service development.
Usea range of advanced communication skills, to share specialised information anddiscussions with a range of audiences, with different levels of knowledge andexpertise.
Attend,contribute and chair Multidisciplinary Team meetings, to discuss individualchildren/ young people.
Developand promote relationships with external networks, including professionals,stakeholders, and specialist centres, in order to ensure excellence of care,whilst representing the organisation and reflecting The Childrens Trust corevalues.
Manageinformal complaints, in line with The Childrens Trust polices and contributeto the resolution of written complaints and as they occur, taking immediateaction where necessary.
Managementof Self and Others
Workingalongside the Therapy Leadership Team, lead on identified and agreed areas ofservice development and quality improvement within a defined clinical area,including designing, implementing, and reviewing these.
Representthe Therapy Team on behalf of the Head of Community and School Therapies, whenrequested.
Participatein the annual Performance Development Review and monthly supervision sessions,as required by The Childrens Trust, both as Appraiser and Appraisee.
Advisethe Head of Community and School Therapies, regarding resources and equipmentneeds, including shortfalls.
Managetime effectively, prioritising, and delegating work, as required.
Assessneeds, decide priorities, and organise, monitor, and evaluate the provision ofan efficient and effective therapy service, in liaison with the Head ofCommunity and School Therapies.
Governance
Ensurehigh standards of practice, through adherence to recognised professionalstandards, evidence-based practice, and effective clinical audit programmes.
Readand implement all policies, procedures, and risk assessments, pertinent toworking practice and keep up to date with changes as and when they occur.
Criticallyevaluate new intervention methods and implement where appropriate.
Criticallyevaluate practice through clinical audits and by appraisal of the informationgained, in combination with current knowledge of evidence-based practice;identify opportunities for service improvement and development.
Continuethe audit cycle, by evaluating any changes implemented as a result. This should include the adoption of evidenceinformed practice, the trial of emerging interventions and the cessation ofinterventions, where evidence is insufficient and other approaches areindicated.
Recogniseand critically appraise situations where the effectiveness, efficiency andquality of the service are compromised and take appropriate action to resolvethe situation.
Attendexternal Working Parties, as requested by the Therapy Leadership Team, in order to contribute to strategic service development.
Criticallyreflect on own performance and that of other staff; use this evaluation toenhance the effectiveness, efficiency, and quality of future practice.
UndergoThe Childrens Trust Risk Assessor training, to ensure that all activities arerisk assessed and documented in the most appropriate format. Ensure that detailed risk assessments arecompleted, as required.
