A Specialist Post-16 College dedicated to improving the lives of vulnerable and disengaged young people with learning difficulties.
Contract
Full-time (Term Time only).
Hours
37.5 hours per week (08:30 - 16:30, Monday to Friday). Full-time tutors work 195 directed days per year.
Reporting To
College Leadership Team (Deputy Headteacher / Head of College).
Core Responsibilities (Curriculum and Holistic Development)
- Curriculum Delivery: Assess, plan, and deliver motor vehicle mechanics skills, integrating embedded English and maths at the appropriate level for all learners (individual or group basis).
- Holistic Education: Design and deliver engaging sessions that incorporate essential life skills, PSHE, personal development, and employability skills, preparing learners for employment or further training.
- Learner-Centred Approach: Continually assess learners' needs, make necessary adjustments to delivery, and promote growth and self-confidence.
- Mentoring and Support: Develop a professional mentor relationship with learners, maintaining appropriate and transparent boundaries.
- Behaviour Management: Deal with challenging or inappropriate behaviour professionally according to college guidelines, acting as a positive role model at all times.
- External Relations: Promote the college to employers and maintain excellent working relationships with other agencies.
- Administration: Maintain thorough, confidential, and up-to-date client records using cloud-based databases and Microsoft Office programmes.
Essential Candidate Requirements (Knowledge and Qualifications)
- Vocational Background: Required experience and qualifications within the motor vehicle industry (mechanics, maintenance, repair).
- Teaching/Assessing: One or more relevant teaching qualifications (e.g., PTLLS, Cert Ed, PGCE, or Assessor Award) OR the genuine willingness to undertake additional training immediately.
- Core Education: Educated to GCSE standard, including A-C in maths and English, or a minimum Level 2 qualification in both subjects.
- Attitude: Outgoing, friendly, and confident personality with a positive, 'can-do' attitude. Must be empathetic, compassionate, patient, and non-judgmental.
- Transport: Car owner and driver. Willingness to drive a 9-seater minibus is desirable.

Desirable Experience and Safeguarding
- Teaching Experience: Experience of teaching and assessing within an education setting.
- Specialist Experience: Experience working with looked-after children/care leavers, and/or working with learners who have learning difficulties and challenging behaviours.
- Safeguarding: All offers are subject to successful Enhanced DBS checks and internal processes. The role holder will be expected to attend certified training in Child Protection, Physical Intervention, and Behavioural Management.
