Job summary

Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust is recruiting a Deputy Mortuary Manager for the Mortuary Postmortem Service in Basildon. The role supports delivery of a safe, secure, and comprehensive mortuary service and supervises junior staff. You will deputise for the Mortuary Manager and participate in on-call duties.

Working in the Agenda for Change framework, Band 6, permanent and full-time. The post requires handling sensitive duties and maintaining high standards of care and professionalism.

Qualifications

• Advanced knowledge of HTA standards and mortuary compliance.
• Advanced knowledge of modern mortuary practice and techniques.
• Advanced knowledge of Health and Safety issues and related legislation.
• Leadership and staff management experience desirable.
• Governance, risk assessment and CPD experience desirable.

Responsibilities

• Provide practical assistance to the Pathologist while ensuring safe practices and SOP adherence.
• Maintain mortuary equipment and cleanliness to high standards.
• Ensure correct techniques in postmortem examinations and minimise health risks.
• Ensure adherence to HTA standards and codes of practice across the mortuary.
• Supervise department visitors and support grieving relatives.
• Train, manage and develop junior staff; liaise with Funeral Directors and other agencies.
• Work with the Mortuary Manager on licensing and regulatory requirements.
• Communicate with clinical/non-clinical staff to deliver a professional mortuary service.
• Deputise for the Mortuary Manager and participate in on-call service.
