Mortgage Underwriter Location: Watford | Office Based

We are looking for a detail-oriented Underwriter to join a busy lending team. You will be responsible for assessing, evaluating, and making lending decisions on 1st, 2nd, or bridging charge applications, depending on your experience.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Case Management: Take ownership of an allocated pipeline of cases and manage them efficiently.
  • Risk Assessment: Assess mortgage or loan applications to ensure they meet underwriting criteria and risk appetite, including evaluating the "five Cs" of credit: character, capacity, capital, collateral, and conditions.
  • Documentation and Data Entry: Enter and update borrower data on the internal lending platform (Fusion), ensuring all details are accurate.
  • Liaison and Communication: Proactively communicate with and chase third parties, including brokers, valuers, and solicitors, for outstanding information. Underwriters typically do not communicate directly with the borrower.
  • Compliance: Ensure all underwriting activities adhere to company policy, relevant regulations (such as FCA guidelines for regulated loans), and responsible lending principles.
  • Referrals: Recommend and refer complex cases to the Credit Committee when required for approval.
