Job summary

A public sector authority is seeking an experienced Monitoring Officer to oversee governance and compliance functions for a new Combined Authority in the South-East. This full-time, hybrid role requires strong legal knowledge and the ability to develop effective governance models. Monitoring Officer

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Monitoring Officer to join a Combined County Authority in the South-East for a period of up to 12 months.

This role will play a critical part in ensuring this new Combined County Authority is set up effectively, with the robust governance, strategies, policies and frameworks required to meet statutory and legal obligations.

The successful postholder will need to establish strong foundations that enable the organisation to accelerate its strategic priorities at pace. Postholders will be expected to build effective relationships and networks across central and local government, partners, businesses and residents, and bring the business, commercial and political acumen needed to translate strategy into meaningful action.

Responsibilities of the Monitoring Officer:
  • Lead all legal, governance, constitutional, and compliance functions
  • Act as the Combined Authority's most senior legal advisor
  • Develop and maintain the governance model, constitution, and regulatory frameworks
  • Oversee procurement policy, legal risk, and regulatory compliance
  • Act as Data Protection Officer
  • Provide authoritative advice on legal and governance issues affecting all portfolios (e. growth, transport, climate, skills, housing)
