Hybrid (x2 days on site / x3 work from home)

If you are looking for an exciting opportunity to make a difference with great job satisfaction in a fast, dynamic, and thriving team, then come and join our Integration Platform team at Nationwide. We are at the heart of the society’s tech strategy and the focal point for our current and future Kubernetes platform.

As a MongoDB Database Administrator, you will work in project teams designing, building, and maintaining MongoDB databases and infrastructure to deliver robust business solutions. You will be involved at all stages, from design and build to supporting both non-production and production environments. We foster a learning culture at NBS, encouraging ongoing development and skill enhancement in technologies. You will also have opportunities to join communities to share ideas and collaborate with other professional engineers.

We are open to flexible working arrangements to support your best performance.

At Nationwide, we offer hybrid working where possible. This approach supports rewarding relationships by bringing colleagues together across the UK while also enabling generous home working. We value in-office time for problem-solving, learning, and connection.

For this role, you will spend at least two days per week, or 40% of your time if part-time, based at our London, Swindon, Northampton, or Bournemouth offices. Further details will be provided by your hiring manager. More about our hybrid working approach can be found here.

If you are outside Swindon and London, you will need to attend these offices once a month for workshops, collaboration, and meetings.

Applications are reviewed promptly, and the vacancy may close early if a high volume of relevant applications is received, so apply soon.

What you’ll be doing

You will collaborate within delivery teams to develop the best solutions for Nationwide, using your technical leadership and SME knowledge to advise, build, and troubleshoot systems in the MongoDB space. You will guide less experienced engineers and help create fit-for-purpose designs to meet team goals.

You may be required to work on-call from time to time.

About you

You should have a proven track record in delivering technical solutions through the design, build, and implementation of MongoDB, with in-depth knowledge and experience in areas such as:

  • Linux operating system concepts
  • Configuring and supporting MongoDB OpsManager for backups and deployments
  • MongoDB architecture, replication, and sharding
  • Supporting JSON document structures, exporting and importing documents
  • Troubleshooting and tuning MongoDB performance, workload, and indexes
  • Working across multiple projects and within a team
  • Sharing expertise with emerging talent
  • Building relationships with technical and business stakeholders
  • Quickly learning new technologies

Knowledge and experience in at least three of the following areas are desirable:

  • Infrastructure as Code (Ansible or similar)
  • LDAP integration
  • Red Hat OpenShift
  • Kafka
  • Network and infrastructure security
  • Agile methodologies and Scrum
  • Regulatory environments like PCI and GDPR
  • Working with third parties/suppliers

Our Customer First behaviors focus on honesty, striving for improvement, and accountability. Demonstrate these qualities in your application.

We offer various benefits, including:

  • A personal pension with employer contributions
  • Up to 2 days paid volunteering annually
  • Life assurance (8x salary)
  • Additional benefits via salary sacrifice schemes
  • Wellhub – health and wellness options
