Job summary

Newcastle University is seeking a Laboratory Technician for a fixed-term 3-month role in the Murray lab to support DNA-related research in bacteria. You will carry out standard microbiology techniques, conduct bacterial two-hybrid assays, and help predict protein interactions using AlphaFold3, while directly supporting undergraduate researchers.

Qualifications

• Experience with bacterial two-hybrid assays and microbiology techniques.
• Familiarity with ChimeraX for molecular visualization.
• Commitment to supporting undergraduate teaching and safety in the lab.

Responsibilities

• Complete maintenance and repairs of lab equipment.
• Liaise with suppliers to resolve issues and explore replacements.
• Advise on equipment capabilities and how results can be achieved.
• Maintain safe, compliant working environment and safety paperwork.
• Oversee safety records and incident reporting.
• Schedule and monitor work to meet deadlines.
• Assist with planning and supervision of lab spaces and activities.
• Support and develop training and inductions for staff and students.
