Job summary

GE Vernova's Module Build team in Rugby is seeking a technically skilled Technician to assemble and test rotating electrical machines. You will read engineering drawings, fit components, and work to tight tolerances while maintaining safety and quality standards.

The role covers mechanical and electrical fitting, measuring with micrometers and verniers, supporting production targets, and shift work (Mon-Fri, 8am to 5pm).

Qualifications

  • Experience in mechanical and electrical fitting or manufacturing environments.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and electrical schematics.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to quality and safety.
  • Ability to work to strict torque tolerances and SOPs.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out mechanical fitting and prepare and build machines for test.
  • Fit drives, couplings, lubrication and cooling systems.
  • Prepare and assemble sub-assemblies and terminal boxes.
  • Measure components to tight tolerances with precision tools.
  • Diagnose electrical faults and support fault finding.
  • Work from drawings, SOPs and manufacturing instructions.
  • Maintain clean, safe working environment and follow 5S.
  • Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing and quality teams.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Carrying out mechanical fitting and preparing and building machines for test.
  • Fitting drives, couplings, lubrication and cooling systems.
  • Preparing and assembling sub-assemblies, including mains and neutral terminal boxes, exciter bases and frames.
  • Measuring components to tight tolerances using equipment such as micrometers, verniers, bore micrometers and DTI gauges.
  • Diagnosing electrical failures and supporting fault-finding activities.
  • Working from engineering drawings, schematics, SOPs and defined manufacturing instructions.
  • Using intelligent tooling and working to strict torque tolerances.
  • Completing quality documentation accurately and in accordance with required standards.
  • Maintaining a clean, organised and safe working environment in line with 5S principles.
  • Following all Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) procedures and safe working practices.
  • Working collaboratively with engineering, manufacturing and quality teams to achieve production targets and deadlines.
  • Supporting other manufacturing and assembly activities across the factory when required.

What We're Looking For

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Previous experience in a mechanical and electrical fitting or manufacturing environment.
  • Previous electrical experience is essential.
  • Ability to read and accurately interpret engineering drawings and electrical schematics.
  • Understanding of geometric tolerances and engineering drawing symbols.
  • Experience using precision measuring equipment such as micrometers, verniers, bore micrometers and DTI gauges.
  • Ability to use intelligent tooling and work to strict torque tolerances.
  • Ability to follow SOPs, work instructions and defined processes accurately.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality and safety.
  • Ability to complete quality documentation accurately.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a team.
  • Ability to use own initiative while working towards production targets and deadlines.
  • Proactive approach to problem-solving and fault diagnosis.
  • Willingness and flexibility to work shifts, particularly late shift, and support overtime as required.

Desirable Skills & Knowledge

  • Experience testing rotating electrical machines, motors or generators
  • Knowledge of high-voltage electrical testing techniques
  • Understanding of electrical measurement and diagnostic equipment
  • Experience working within a Lean Manufacturing environment
  • Knowledge of 5S and continuous improvement methodologies

Shift Pattern:

  • Monday to Friday: 8am to 5pm
