AURORA Energy Research in Oxford is seeking a Modelling Software Engineer to own the Python-based Chronos modelling product. You’ll join a small, collaborative team delivering feature development end-to-end, from requirements to live operation, focusing on accurate estimation and maintainable, robust code for energy systems modelling.
The role blends strong software engineering with sophisticated modelling of energy markets, with hybrid working options in Oxford.
Department: Tech - Model & Platform Engineering
Employment Type: Permanent - Full Time
Location: Oxford, UK
Chronos is Aurora's battery storage modelling product. It simulates how batteries operate in power markets, and our clients use the results to make investment decisions. Behind it sits a large Python codebase that turns modelling methods into software the whole business can rely on.
We’re looking for a Modelling Software Engineer to help us build and maintain the Python codebase behind Aurora’s Chronos battery storage modelling product. You’ll work in a small team (5-6 people) within a collaborative engineering and product-driven environment, owning feature development end-to-end to deliver valuable outcomes for users, while improving code quality and maintainability.
You will thrive here if you are keen on both best practice software engineering and sophisticated mathematical modelling of energy systems. You might come from a software background and want to work on energy and battery models. You might come from a modelling, science or quantitative background and want to build strong engineering habits. Both sides of the work are critical to success in this role.
At AER, we are committed to offering flexibility in the way we work. Most of our roles are hybrid with a mix of in-office/home working and potentially adjustable working hours. Let’s discuss what works for you and AER during the interview process.
