Job summary

The RAC is hiring a Mobile Vehicle Technician for the SMR Division in the Walsall area. You will operate on a pre‑booked schedule, with a fully equipped RAC van, fuel card, uniform and a complete tool set to deliver quality work.

Expect a base salary of £40,178 with OTE up to £52,000, plus overtime options and bonus opportunities. The 40‑hour week runs 8:30 am–5:00 pm, with 1 in 4 Saturdays, serving the local cluster from Walsall outward.

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 2 in Light Vehicle Maintenance (or equivalent) with 2+ years' experience.
• 5+ years' experience as a Vehicle Technician/Mechanic with a full UK licence and <6 points.

Responsibilities

• Conduct routine servicing and diagnostics using mobile equipment.
• Perform in-depth repairs that would typically be done in a workshop.
• Provide member advice and recommendations based on inspection results.
• Carry out vehicle safety checks aligned to RAC standards.

About the Role

Join the RAC as a Mobile Vehicle Technician in our SMR Division - a new era of mobile repair.

• A competitive base salary of £40,178, with on-target earnings of up to £52,000

You’ll be part of the Walsall cluster, covering areas like Walsall, Aldridge, Brownhills, Cannock, Lichfield, Burntwood, Sutton Coldfield. You’ll be out on the road in your local area, working through a clearly planned schedule of appointments - no reactive callouts, just organised, pre‑booked work where you can focus on doing the job properly.

The RAC is known for roadside rescue - but this isn’t that. Our Service, Maintenance & Repair (SMR) division is a newer, fast-growing part of the RAC, built to deliver planned, structured repair and servicing directly to members - from their driveway to their workplace car park. There are no emergency callouts, no unpredictable shift patterns and no roadside recoveries. Instead, you’ll work through a scheduled list of jobs, with the time, tools and support you need to do quality work.

What you’ll need

Either:

• NVQ Level 2 qualification in Light Vehicle Maintenance (or equivalent) with 2+ years’ experience
• 5+ years’ experience as a Vehicle Technician/Mechanic and a full UK driving licence with fewer than 6 points
