Job summary

RAC in the South East is hiring a Mobile Vehicle Technician for our SMR division, delivering planned servicing and repairs directly to members at their driveway or workplace.

The role offers a base salary of £40,178 with on‑target earnings up to £52,000, 40 hours per week, 8:30–17:00, and a 1 in 4 Saturday rota. A full UK driving licence with fewer than 6 points is required and you’ll enjoy structured workflows and generous benefits.

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 2 qualification in Light Vehicle Maintenance (or equivalent).
• 2+ years’ experience in vehicle maintenance.
• 5+ years’ experience as a Vehicle Technician/Mechanic.
• Full UK driving licence with fewer than 6 points.

Responsibilities

• Routine servicing of vehicles.
• Diagnostics using mobile equipment.
• In-depth repairs performed in a mobile setting.
• Provide member advice and recommendations after inspection.
• Perform vehicle safety checks aligned to RAC standards.

Our Service, Maintenance & Repair (SMR) division is a newer, fast-growing part of the RAC, built to deliver planned, structured repair and servicing directly to members - from their driveway to their workplace car park.
There are no emergency callouts, no unpredictable shift patterns and no roadside recoveries. Instead, you’ll work through a scheduled list of jobs, with the time, tools and support you need to do quality work.

What you’ll need

Either:

• NVQ Level 2 qualification in Light Vehicle Maintenance (or equivalent) with 2+ years’ experience
• 5+ years’ experience as a Vehicle Technician/Mechanic
• A full UK driving licence with fewer than 6 points
