The RAC is recruiting a Mobile Vehicle Technician for its SMR division in the Newbury cluster. Work is pre-booked, with no emergency callouts, offering a structured schedule and the chance to service members’ vehicles at driveways and car parks across Hungerford and surrounding towns.

You’ll perform routine servicing, diagnostics with mobile equipment, and in-depth repairs, aided by a fully equipped RAC van and advanced diagnostics. Full 40‑hour week, overtime options and company benefits apply.

• NVQ Level 2 qualification in Light Vehicle Maintenance or equivalent.
• 5+ years’ experience as a Vehicle Technician/Mechanic is acceptable.
• Full UK driving licence with fewer than 6 points.

• Acompetitive base salary of £40,170, with on-target earnings of up to£52,000

The RAC is known for roadside rescue - but this isn’t that.

Our Service, Maintenance & Repair (SMR) division is a newer, fast-growing part of the RAC, built to deliver planned, structured repair and servicing directly to members - from their driveway to their workplace car park.

There are no emergency callouts, no unpredictable shift patterns and noroadside recoveries. Instead, you’ll work through a scheduled list ofjobs, with the time, tools and support you need to do quality work.

Where you’ll work

You’ll be part of the Newbury cluster, covering areas like Newbury, Thatcham, Andover, Hungerford, Lambourn, You’ll be out on the road in your local area, working through a clearly planned schedule of appointments - no reactive callouts, just organised, pre‑booked work where you can focus on doing the job properly.

Your day starts with a clear digital schedule. Each job is pre‑booked, with the member expecting you.

What you’ll need

Either:

NVQ Level 2 qualification in Light Vehicle Maintenance (or equivalent) with 2+ years’ experience

or

5+ years’ experience as a Vehicle Technician/Mechanic

and

A full UK driving licence with fewer than 6 points
