Job summary

The RAC is recruiting a Mobile Vehicle Technician for its SMR Division in the Hertfordshire area. You will operate on pre‑booked jobs, servicing and repairing vehicles at members’ driveways or workplaces with a fully equipped RAC van and advanced diagnostics from day one.

Expect a 40‑hour week (Mon–Sat), with core hours 8:30 to 17:00 and potential overtime/bonus opportunities to boost earnings up to £52,000 OTE. A strong technical background and UK driving licence are essential.

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 2 qualification in Light Vehicle Maintenance (or equivalent) with 2+ years’ experience.
• 5+ years’ experience as a Vehicle Technician/Mechanic.
• Full UK driving licence with fewer than 6 points.

• In‑depth repairs you’d normally complete in a workshop.

Where you’ll work

You’ll be part of the Harlow cluster, covering areas like Harlow, Bishop’s Stortford, Sawbridgeworth, Waltham Abbey, Epping, Hoddesdon. You’ll be out on the road in your local area, working through a clearly planned schedule of appointments - no reactive callouts, just organised, pre‑booked work where you can focus on doing the job properly.

Our Service, Maintenance & Repair (SMR) division is a newer, fast-growing part of the RAC, built to deliver planned, structured repair and servicing directly to members - from their driveway to their workplace car park.

There are no emergency callouts, no unpredictable shift patterns and no roadside recoveries. Instead, you’ll work through a scheduled list of jobs, with the time, tools and support you need to do quality work.

From day one, you’ll have everything you need: a fully equipped RAC van, fuelcard, uniform, full tool set and advanced diagnostics.

You’ll use your technical skill and problem‑solving ability to get people moving again; safely, quickly and confidently.

Your day starts with a clear digital schedule. Each job is pre‑booked, with the member expecting you.

What you’ll need...

Either:

NVQ Level 2 qualification in Light Vehicle Maintenance (or equivalent) with 2+ years’ experience
