Job summary

RAC is expanding its SMR division with Mobile Vehicle Technicians working across the Derby cluster and surrounding areas. You’ll join a structured schedule of pre-booked jobs, focusing on planned servicing, diagnostics, and in-depth repairs at members’ driveways and car parks.

The role offers a 40-hour week with core hours and occasional Saturdays, a base salary around £40,178 with OTE up to £52,000, and generous benefits including overtime options and a pension scheme.

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 2 qualification in Light Vehicle Maintenance (or equivalent).
• 2+ years’ experience in vehicle maintenance work.
• Full UK driving licence with fewer than 6 points.

The RAC is known for roadside rescue - but this isn’t that.

Our Service, Maintenance & Repair (SMR) division is a newer, fast-growingpart of the RAC, built to deliver planned, structured repair and servicingdirectly to members - from their driveway to their workplace car park.

There are no emergency callouts, no unpredictable shift patterns and noroadside recoveries. Instead, you’ll work through a scheduled list ofjobs, with the time, tools and support you need to do quality work.

Where you’ll work

You’ll be part of the Derby cluster, covering areas like Derby, Burton‑upon‑Trent, Swadlincote, Long Eaton, Belper. You’ll be out on the road in your local area, working through a clearly planned schedule of appointments - no reactive callouts, just organised, pre‑booked work where you can focus on doing the job properly.

From day one, you’ll have everything you need: a fully equipped RAC van, fuelcard, uniform, full tool set and advanced diagnostics. You’ll use yourtechnical skill and problem‑solving ability to get people moving again; safely,quickly and confidently.

What you’ll need...

Either:

• NVQ Level 2 qualification in Light Vehicle Maintenance (or equivalent) with 2+ years’ experience

or

• 5+ years’ experience as a Vehicle Technician/Mechanic

and

• A full UK driving licence with fewer than 6 points
