Job summary

RAC is recruiting for a Mobile Vehicle Technician in the SMR division. You will perform routine servicing, diagnostics with mobile equipment, and in-depth repairs on client vehicles at pre-booked locations. You’ll advise members on findings and ensure RAC safety standards are met.

The role offers a fully mobile schedule across Barnet and surrounding areas with a fixed 40-hour week, optional overtime, and a comprehensive benefits package. A UK driving licence with clean points is required.

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 2 in Light Vehicle Maintenance or equivalent is required.
• 2+ years’ experience in vehicle maintenance with LV maintenance qualification, or 5+ years in a similar role.
• Full UK driving licence with fewer than 6 points.

Responsibilities

• Carry out routine servicing and diagnostics on client vehicles.
• Perform in-depth repairs that may be completed away from a workshop setting.
• Provide member guidance and recommendations based on inspections.
• Conduct vehicle safety checks in line with RAC standards.
• Operate with pre-booked appointments and maintain clear documentation.

Join the RAC as a Mobile Vehicle Technician in our SMR Division - a new era of mobile repair.

• A competitive base salary of £45,378 (inclusive of London Weighting Allowance, if applicable), with on-target earnings of up to £57,000
• A guaranteed overtime option to increase your base salary to £44,385, plus additional overtime and bonus opportunities
• 40 hours per week, with core hours from8:30 am to 5:00 pm, and 1 in 4 Saturdays.

A Different Kind of RAC Role: Welcome to SMR

The RAC is known for roadside rescue - but this isn’t that. Our Service, Maintenance & Repair (SMR) division is a newer, fast-growing part of the RAC, built to deliver planned, structured repair and servicing directly to members - from their driveway to their workplace car park. There are no emergency callouts, no unpredictable shift patterns and no roadside recoveries. Instead, you’ll work through a scheduled list of jobs, with the time, tools and support you need to do quality work.

Where you’ll work

You’ll be part of the Barnet cluster, covering areas like Barnet, Finchley, Totteridge, Whetstone, Hendon, Golders Green. You’ll be out on the road in your local area, working through a clearly planned schedule of appointments - no reactive callouts, just organized, pre-booked work where you can focus on doing the job properly.

What you’ll need...

Either: NVQ Level 2 qualification in Light Vehicle Maintenance (or equivalent) with 2+ years’ experience or 5+ years’ experience as a Vehicle Technician/Mechanic and A full UK driving licence with fewer than 6 points
