Job summary

The RAC is recruiting a Mobile Vehicle Technician within its SMR division. This role focuses on planned, pre-booked maintenance and diagnostics using mobile equipment, delivering quality repairs away from the workshop. You’ll cover local areas with a fully equipped RAC van and structured schedules.

Expect a base salary of £40,170 with OTE up to £52,000, and overtime opportunities. You’ll work a 40-hour week with some Saturday availability, and enjoy a comprehensive benefits package from day one.

Qualifications

• Must have NVQ Level 2 or equivalent in Light Vehicle Maintenance.
• 2+ years’ experience as a Vehicle Technician/Mechanic.
• Full UK driving licence with fewer than 6 points.

• 40hours per week, with core hours from8:30 am to 5:00 pm, and 1 in 4Saturdays.

Where you’ll work

You’ll be part of the Portsmouth cluster, covering areas like Portsmouth, Havant, Waterlooville, Fareham, Gosport, Chichester, Emsworth. You’ll be out on the road in your local area, working through a clearly planned schedule of appointments - no reactive callouts, just organised, pre‑booked work where you can focus on doing the job properly.

The RAC is known for roadside rescue - but this isn’t that. Our Service, Maintenance & Repair (SMR) division is a newer, fast-growingpart of the RAC, built to deliver planned, structured repair and servicingdirectly to members - from their driveway to their workplace car park.

There are no emergency callouts, no unpredictable shift patterns and noroadside recoveries. Instead, you’ll work through a scheduled list ofjobs, with the time, tools and support you need to do quality work.

From day one, you’ll have everything you need: a fully equipped RAC van, fuelcard, uniform, full tool set and advanced diagnostics. You’ll use yourtechnical skill and problem‑solving ability to get people moving again; safely,quickly and confidently.

What you’ll need...

Either:

• NVQ Level 2 qualification in Light Vehicle Maintenance (or equivalent) with 2+ years’ experience
• 5+ years’ experience as a Vehicle Technician/Mechanic
• A full UK driving licence with fewer than 6 points
