Job summary

Octane Recruitment Limited is recruiting a Mobile Vehicle Technician for a national breakdown company. You will service, maintain and repair vehicles at customers' homes or workplaces, mostly in Welwyn Garden City and surrounding areas.

The role is full-time, 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday 8:30am–5pm, with one Saturday per month. Overtime after 5pm or on Saturdays is paid at time and a half. Benefits include pension, life cover, and career progression opportunities.

Qualifications

• Minimum Level 2 qualification in light vehicle maintenance and repair (Level 3 preferred).
• At least 2 years hands-on experience with vehicles.
• Ability to work independently and communicate with customers.
• Valid UK driving license (max 6 points).

Responsibilities

• Service and repair vehicles at customers' premises.
• Perform routine maintenance (oil, tires, brakes).
• Diagnose and fix engine, electrical, and transmission issues.
• Document work and parts used.

Mobile Vehicle Technician providing servicing, maintenance and repairs via pre-booked appointments at customers' home addresses or places of work. This is a new and specialist division for the number one national breakdown company in the UK, with over 15 million members.

Location & Pay

Location: Welwyn Garden City

Pay / salary: £40,170 OTE: In Excess of £52,000

Job type: Permanent / full-time role

Shift and schedule for the Mobile Technician role

Home based, working 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday 8.30am - 5pm with 1 Saturday per month. When working the Saturday, you will receive a day off in that week. Any overtime past 5pm or an additional Saturday, is paid at time and a half (£30ph)

1 day of overtime per month = £3,000 additional per year; 2 days of overtime per month = £5,000 additional per year, completely optional - more flexibility, more reward.

Job Responsibilities for the Mobile Vehicle Technician role

• Servicing and repairing vehicles (including EVs) at the customer's selected location, e.g. driveway or office car park.
• Perform routine maintenance tasks, such as oil changes, tire rotations, and brake inspections.
• Diagnose and repair vehicle problems, including engine, transmission, brake, suspension, and electrical issues.
• Use diagnostic tools and software to identify and resolve complex issues.
• Communicate with customers about vehicle issues and repair recommendations.
• Payment handling through card transactions.
• Keep up to date with the latest automotive technology and repair techniques.
• Keep accurate records of all work performed and parts used.

What you'll need to be considered for the Mobile Vehicle Technician role

• Must have a minimum Level 2 qualification in light vehicle maintenance and repair, or ideally a Level 3 light vehicle maintenance and repair qualification (City & Guilds, IMI, NVQ, or equivalent).
• Must have a minimum of 2 years' post-qualification hands-on experience with vehicles, either in a workshop or a mobile vehicle role.
• The ability to work independently, make decisions on the go, and follow procedures.
• A customer-focused approach.
• Must have a full UK driving licence - max 6 points, no bans.
