Job summary

RAC is hiring a Mobile Vehicle Technician for its SMR Division in the UK. The role offers a base salary of £40,170 with on-target earnings up to £52,000 and guaranteed overtime to boost your base salary.

The position is 40 hours per week with core hours 8:30am–5:00pm and 1 in 4 Saturdays. You will perform routine servicing, diagnostics using advanced mobile equipment, and in-depth repairs that you would normally complete in a workshop, along with member advice and safety checks in RAC standards.

Qualifications

• NVQ Level2 qualification in Light Vehicle Maintenance.
• 2+ years’ experience in a Vehicle Technician/Mechanic role.
• 5+ years’ experience as a Vehicle Technician/Mechanic.

Your day starts with a clear digital schedule. Each job is pre‑booked, with the member expecting you. You’ll carry out:

• Routine servicing

• In‑depth repairs you’d normally complete in a workshop
• Member advice and recommendations based on your inspection
• Vehicle safety checks aligned to RAC standards

Because SMR is structured, you’re not reacting to breakdowns – you’re delivering planned work that you can prepare for. From day one, you’ll have everything you need: a fully equipped RAC van, fuel card, uniform, full tool set, and advanced diagnostics.

What you’ll need

Either:

• NVQ Level2 qualification in Light Vehicle Maintenance (or equivalent) with 2+ years’ experience
• 5+ years’ experience as a Vehicle Technician/Mechanic

A full UK driving licence with fewer than 6 points.
