Mobile Technical Operative - Mechanical
Portsmouth, PO1
Start Date: ASAP | End Date: 28 March 2026
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
Rate: £20.19 per hour
Note: This is a mobile role, not site-based.

Role Overview

We are looking for a skilled Mobile Technical Operative (Mechanical) to join the HMCTS maintenance contract in Portsmouth. The successful candidate will carry out both planned and reactive maintenance across various locations, ensuring compliance, safety, and high service standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Carry out Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) and reactive tasks in line with site schedules and CAFM requirements.
  • Diagnose and repair plant faults swiftly to maintain serviceable systems.
  • Ensure availability of spare parts and provide time/cost estimates for remedial works.
  • Complete all required documentation and CAFM updates accurately and on time.
  • Prepare and follow Risk Assessments and Method Statements for all work activities.
  • Maintain positive working relationships with Equans staff, subcontractors, and client representatives.
  • Supervise subcontractors and ensure all work meets safety and compliance standards.
  • Operate under the Permit to Work system and adhere to all SHEQ procedures.
  • Participate in the on-call rota to provide 24/7 maintenance cover.
  • Support emergency response and contingency planning when required.
  • Maintain compliance with BS7671 and other relevant standards.
Client / Customer Support
  • Respond promptly to all verbal and written requests.
  • Coordinate and prepare quotations with the Contract Manager.
  • Produce reports and condition surveys as required.
Helpdesk / PPM
  • Support the Helpdesk with reporting and updating maintenance activities.
  • Be available for out-of-hours call-out support as part of the contract.
Compliance
  • Obtain and maintain Technical Appointments (e.g. LVCP, LVAP, Mechanical/Pressure CP).
  • Ensure supervisors are informed immediately of any dangerous circumstances.
  • Produce Condition/Dilapidation Reports where necessary.
Requirements
  • Proven experience in a mechanical maintenance or building services role.
  • Strong understanding of PPM and reactive maintenance processes.
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Full UK driving licence (mobile role).
  • Relevant trade qualifications (e.g. NVQ, City & Guilds) desirable.
