Job Summary
This post is based on our mobile screening units, which provided Breast Screening to women in Liverpool Sefton and Knowsley. Our new mobile unit will also be offering screening information and services from other screening departments. You will need to be able to travel to all sites. Previous NHS experience would be an advantage, but full training in the relevant systems will be provided. You will also be required to work in the Breast Screening Unit in Broadgreen Hospital on occasion.
Eligibility
Only current employees of the five LAASP organisations (Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital, Liverpool University Hospitals, Liverpool Women’s Hospital or The Walton Centre) are invited to apply.
Main Duties
- Work as a team member of the Liverpool Breast Screening Clerical Team to maintain a high standard of service to patients and staff.
- Undertake general clerical duties and reception work.
- Ensure all patients arriving in the mobile unit are examined in a timely and efficient manner.
- Work closely with radiographers to arrange day‑to‑day appointments.
- Provide an efficient appointment service adhering to Breast Screening appointment protocols and procedures.
Responsibilities
- Check pre‑booked lists prior to start of clinic.
- Show a sympathetic and caring approach towards clients and patients and families/friends when carrying out reception duties.
- Welcome and assist clients, relatives/friends and other visitors on arrival in the mobile unit and inform appropriate staff.
- Communicate effectively and promptly to all enquiries in a discreet manner, with empathy and sensitivity.
- Provide cover whenever possible for annual leave and sickness for the other mobile unit receptionists.
- Be available to travel between sites mid shift if required e.g. to cover urgent absence.
- Be aware of the needs of the clients in the waiting area and inform the radiographic staff.
- Be responsible for updating accurate information relating to the NHSBSP system. Close clinics and check attendees.
- Prepare boxes of completed work for the couriers to deliver to or from the static units.
- Assist the Screening Unit Manager and Deputy Manager as required.
- Attend static unit based at Broadgreen hospital for training or to provide cover on occasion.
- Use the NBSS/BS Select computer systems to input and gather data in relation to screening clinics.
Communications
- Liaise with other breast screening units as required and relay relevant information to the office‑based A&C team.
Person Specification – Essential
- GCSE English and Maths (or equivalent).
- Understand the meaning of ‘confidentiality’.
- Current employee of a LAASP organisation.
- Experience of dealing with the public in person.
- Clerical experience.
- Working in a healthcare setting.

- Ability to work unsupervised.
