Job summary

The Education Authority in Dundonald is seeking a part-time Catering Manager to lead day-to-day kitchen operations, ensure high standards of food safety and service delivery, and promote meal uptake across schools.

You will oversee dining centres and production kitchen, manage staff rotas, monitor budgets, and ensure compliance with HACCP and all health and safety policies. A strong focus on quality, communication with schools and parents, and delivering a top-class catering service is essential.

Qualifications

  • Hold NVQ level 2 in food preparation and cooking or City & Guilds 706-1 & 706-2 or equivalent or higher relevant qualification.
  • Demonstrable supervision or management of a catering team.
  • Demonstrable experience in stock control, budget management and financial controls.
  • Knowledge of HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point).
  • Willingness to undertake job-related training.
  • Must have access to a suitable vehicle or reliable transport for EA duties.

Responsibilities

  • Execute skilled cooking activities and menu development, including special dietary meals (IDDSI), theme days/events and functions.
  • Organise and supervise all aspects of food service, including service points and meal transport where required.
  • Oversee dining centre kitchens and production kitchen operations in line with food safety standards.
  • Maintain allergen matrices and record temperatures and other required records.
  • Manage deliveries, storage, stock takes, and waste minimisation; report equipment defects.
  • Promote catering services to parents, principals, pupils and customers to increase uptake of meals.
  • Establish communication links with the school on service delivery and handle feedback or complaints.
  • Carry out risk assessments including Fire Risk Assessment; ensure staff training and appraisals are maintained.
  • Lead and develop catering team, supervise staff, and manage rotas, training and performance.
