The role

As a Mobile Repair Technician, you’ll be part of a team that plays a critical role in supporting the London Fire Brigade. You’ll help ensure their fleet of over 460 vehicles and specialist equipment is always ready to respond, making a real difference to public safety and emergency response across Greater London.

This is a dynamic and hands‑on role where your technical expertise will directly impact operational readiness. You’ll work across a wide range of sites, diagnosing and repairing faults, improving reliability, and helping reduce in‑service defects.

Day‑to‑day responsibilities
  • Diagnosing faults and conducting vehicle testing using specialist equipment and techniques.
  • Maintaining your company vehicle to ensure road‑worthiness and timely servicing.
  • Completing job documentation accurately, including post‑repair write‑ups and parts requisitions.
  • Identifying recharge cost instances and reporting them with supporting evidence.
  • Working across operational and training sites, performing manual tasks such as lifting, bending, and using tools.

Please note that the successful candidate will be required to pass a targeted medical questionnaire and/or medical examination as a condition of employment for this role.

This position involves manual work, which may include lifting, bending, using tools or standing for extended periods of time.

The role is based onsite at Croydon, and the set working times are Monday to Friday, totalling 40 hours per week. Regular travel across internal and customer sites is expected.

Essential experience
  • Proven experience as a qualified motor vehicle technician.
  • Full UK driving licence (Category B essential; Category C desirable).
  • Strong diagnostic skills and a methodical approach to fault resolution.
  • High attention to quality and safety.
  • Understanding of health and safety practices in workshop environments.
  • Ability to interpret technical documentation accurately.
Qualifications
  • City & Guilds Levels 1 and 2 in Motor Vehicle Studies, or
  • NVQ Levels 2 and 3 in Vehicle Maintenance and Repair (or equivalent).

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Standard (BPSS) security clearance for this role.
