Job summary

Veolia in Alton is seeking a hands-on operative to operate Front Loading Shovels, Telehandler and a 360 excavator to move waste and support daily site operations. The role requires a 40-hour week with rotating shifts from 06:00 to 14:30 and 14:30 to 23:00, plus routine maintenance duties.

You will liaise with site teams, complete paperwork, and ensure waste types are correctly handled and documented, while aiming to maximise recycled material weight and meet quality standards.

Qualifications

• Previous experience within a similar operational environment.
• Mobile plant licence (Loading Shovel, 360 Material Handler, Digger or Telehandler) required.
• Full UK driving licence and own transport due to site location.

Responsibilities

• Operate the Front Loading Shovels, Telehandler and 360-degree Excavator to transport waste.
• Routine maintenance of mobile plant and equipment, including oils and water checks and reporting defects.
• Liaise with site personnel, contractors, tipping authorities and haulage department staff.
• Complete machine/plant hours, defect sheets and related paperwork.
• Ensure correct waste types are accepted and any non-conforming wastes are reported and dealt with.
• Carry out quality checks on outgoing recycled material to meet market quality standards.
