Role and Responsibilities

The Mobile Mechanical Plant Fitter will cover the Yorkshire region, joining a friendly team and maintaining and repairing mobile plant equipment such as rollers, pavers and JCBs. The role is part of a 24/7 engineering function, primarily servicing plant equipment on motorways and local authority roads. Experience with agricultural equipment (e.g., JCB tractors, combine harvesters) or paving plant equipment is beneficial.

  • Respond to plant breakdowns to return assets to production promptly, with temporary fixes followed by permanent solutions
  • Undertake emergency breakdown repairs on all production equipment
  • Own small-scale projects and deliver them pragmatically and proactively
  • Coordinate with contractors and suppliers when maintenance activities occur on site
  • Participate in root cause analysis to prevent repeat failures
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of the engineering function through observations and experience
  • Work with risk assessments and method statements and contribute to safe working methods for repair procedures
  • Maintain and promote Health & Safety rules and company procedures
  • Challenge unsafe conditions, reporting them through company procedures
  • Utilise the computerised maintenance management system to record all work, fault descriptions, spares used, and repairs

The role reports to the Team Leader and is responsible for the above activities across the Yorkshire region, with linkages to the Salford site. It is accessible from multiple towns in the area.

The Ideal Candidate
  • Self-motivated, enthusiastic and able to work with minimal supervision
  • Proven experience in an industrial, agricultural, factory or similar environment as a Mobile Fitter
  • Recognised apprenticeship (preferably higher-level) with ONC/HNC desirable
  • Strong mechanical systems background (heavy industry: conveyors, drive systems – pavers, motors, belts, pumps, gearboxes, crushers, vibratory screens)
  • Welding and fabricating experience and ability to remove and fit bearings
  • Fault-finding ability to identify defects and recommend action
  • Ability to undertake emergency breakdown repairs in a timely and efficient manner
  • IT literate and able to use PCs, common applications and company systems
  • Competent in application-based inspection schemes
  • Ability to assess SHE risks and control risks; knowledge of site-specific SHE procedures and Safe Working Practices
  • Flexibility to travel across the Yorkshire region and attend plant-specific training
  • Suitable candidates for the role will possess CPC or be willing to train
  • Full UK driving licence with less than 6 points (company van provided with fuel card)
