Job summary

RAC is recruiting a Mobile Vehicle Technician for its SMR division. You’ll work on a planned schedule, visiting members’ driveways and car parks across your local area, with no reactive callouts and clear time windows.

You’ll perform routine servicing, diagnostics with mobile equipment, and in-depth repairs, delivering high-quality work and strong customer service every day. A full UK driving licence is required and overtime opportunities are available.

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 2 in Light Vehicle Maintenance (or equivalent) plus 2+ years’ experience preferred.
• A full UK driving licence with fewer than 6 points is required.

Join the RAC as a Mobile Vehicle Technician inour SMR Division - a new era of mobile repair.

• Acompetitive base salary of £40,170, with on-target earnings of up to£52,000

• 40hours per week, with core hours from8:30 am to 5:00 pm, and 1 in 4Saturdays.

Where you’ll work

You’ll be part of the Central Birmingham cluster, covering areas like Birmingham City Centre, Digbeth, Aston, Handsworth, Erdington. You’ll be out on the road in your local area, working through a clearly planned schedule of appointments - no reactive callouts, just organised, pre‑booked work where you can focus on doing the job properly.

A Different Kind of RAC Role: Welcome toSMR

The RAC is known for roadside rescue - but this isn’t that. Our Service, Maintenance & Repair (SMR) division is a newer, fast-growingpart of the RAC, built to deliver planned, structured repair and servicingdirectly to members - from their driveway to their workplace car park. There are no emergency callouts, no unpredictable shift patterns and noroadside recoveries.Instead, you’ll work through a scheduled list ofjobs, with the time, tools and support you need to do quality work.

What to expect

Your day starts with a clear digital schedule. Each job is pre‑booked, with the member expecting you. You’ll carry out:

• Routine servicing
• Diagnostics using advanced mobile equipment
• In‑depth repairs you’d normally complete in a workshop
• Member advice and recommendations based on your inspection
• Vehicle safety checks aligned to RAC standards

And because SMR is structured, you’re not reacting to breakdowns - you’redelivering planned work that you can prepare for. From day one, you’ll have everything you need: a fully equipped RAC van, fuelcard, uniform, full tool set and advanced diagnostics. You’ll use yourtechnical skill and problem‑solving ability to get people moving again; safely,quickly and confidently.

What you’ll need…

Either:
NVQ Level 2 qualification in Light Vehicle Maintenance (or equivalent) with 2+ years’ experience
or
5+ years’ experience as a Vehicle Technician/Mechanic
and
A full UK driving licence with fewer than 6 points
