Job summary

The RAC is recruiting a Mobile Vehicle Technician for its SMR division, covering Norwich and surrounding areas. You will follow a clearly planned schedule of pre-booked jobs, performing servicing, diagnostics and repairs at customers' driveways or car parks, focusing on quality work with minimal on-call emergencies.

From day one you’ll work with a fully equipped RAC van, tool set and diagnostics, with ongoing development and opportunity to advance toward accreditation in a structured pathway.

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 2 in Light Vehicle Maintenance (or equivalent) with 2+ years' experience.
• Or 5+ years’ experience as Vehicle Technician/Mechanic.
• Full UK driving licence with fewer than 6 points.

Responsibilities

• Carry out routine servicing.
• Perform diagnostics using advanced mobile equipment.
• Complete in-depth repairs normally done in a workshop.
• Provide member advice and recommendations.
• Perform vehicle safety checks to RAC standards.

Join the RAC as a Mobile Vehicle Technician inour SMR Division - a new era of mobile repair.

• Acompetitive base salary of £40,170, with on-target earnings of up to£52,000
• A guaranteed overtime option to increase yourbase salary, plus additional overtime and bonus opportunities
• 40hours per week, with core hours from8:30 am to 5:00 pm, and 1 in 4Saturdays.

Where you’ll work

You’ll be part of the Norwich cluster, covering areas like Norwich, Great Yarmouth, Lowestoft, Aylsham, Wymondham, Beccles. You’ll be out on the road in your local area, working through a clearly planned schedule of appointments - no reactive callouts, just organised, pre‑booked work where you can focus on doing the job properly.

The RAC is known for roadside rescue - but this isn’t that.

Our Service, Maintenance & Repair (SMR) division is a newer, fast-growingpart of the RAC, built to deliver planned, structured repair and servicingdirectly to members - from their driveway to their workplace car park.

There are no emergency callouts, no unpredictable shift patterns and noroadside recoveries. Instead, you’ll work through a scheduled list ofjobs, with the time, tools and support you need to do quality work.

What to expect

Your day starts with a clear digital schedule. Each job is pre‑booked, with themember expecting you.You’ll carry out:

• Routine servicing
• Diagnostics using advanced mobile equipment
• In‑depth repairs you’d normally complete in a workshop
• Member advice and recommendations based on your inspection
• Vehicle safety checks aligned to RAC standards

And because SMR is structured, you’re not reacting to breakdowns - you’redelivering planned work that you can prepare for.

From day one, you’ll have everything you need: a fully equipped RAC van, fuelcard, uniform, full tool set and advanced diagnostics. You’ll use yourtechnical skill and problem‑solving ability to get people moving again; safely,quickly and confidently.

What you’ll need...

Either:

• NVQ Level 2 qualification in Light Vehicle Maintenance (or equivalent) with 2+ years’ experience
• or
• 5+ years’ experience as a Vehicle Technician/Mechanic

• A full UK driving licence with fewer than 6 points
