Job description

We are currently looking for an experienced Mobile Maintenance Fitter (Mechanical) to join our friendly team covering the Lancashire area. This role is working 48 hrs week – fully flexible between Monday to Friday 07:30 - 17:00 and Saturday morning 07:30 – 12:00. The position is commutable from Salford, Preston, Blackpool, Blackburn, Bolton, Oldham, Rochdale, Wigan, Stockport, Warrington, Ashton-under-Lyne, St Helens and Chorley.

Role Responsibilities
  • Inspection, maintenance & service of Ready‑mix Concrete Plants.
  • Provide PPM and breakdown response to the Ready‑mix business.
  • Deliver the Maintenance Strategy and best practice, driving a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Respond to emergency and plant breakdowns on all production equipment including conveyors, pneumatics, fabrication/welding plant.
  • Ensure assets are returned to production and temporary fixes followed up with a permanent solution.
  • Own small scale projects and deliver them pragmatically & proactively.
  • Take a cost‑conscious approach to maintenance activities and PPM.
  • Coordinate with contractors and suppliers when they are on site.
  • Participate in root cause analysis to eliminate repeat failures.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of the engineering function.
  • Weld and fabricate to a good standard.
  • Work with risk assessments and method statements; help prepare and develop safe working methods for repair procedures.
  • Maintain and promote Health & Safety rules and regulations, following all company processes and procedures and challenging unsafe conditions through company procedures.
  • Utilise the computerised maintenance management system, recording all work including fault descriptions, spares used and repairs carried out; use application‑based inspection schemes.
Ideal Candidate
  • Self‑motivated, enthusiastic and able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Experience working in an industrial, factory or similar environment as a Mobile Fitter.
  • Recognised apprenticeship (preferably a higher‑level standard).
  • ONC/HNC (desirable but not essential).
  • Strong, practical mechanical systems background: heavy industry – conveyors, pneumatics, drive systems – motors, belts, pumps, gearboxes.
  • Fault‑finding ability to identify defects and recommend appropriate action.
  • Ability to remove and fit bearings.
  • Capability to undertake emergency breakdown repairs and PPM in a timely and efficient manner on all production equipment.
  • IT skills – use PCs, common applications and company systems.
  • Competence in application‑based inspection schemes.
  • Ability to assess SHE risks arising from work activities and control risks accordingly.
  • Knowledge of site‑specific SHE procedures and Safe Working Practices.
