Job Title: Mobile Engineering Assistant

Reporting to: Engineering Manager

Job objectives and responsibilities

Assist with the M&E Engineering team in carrying out technical and other practical tasks, covering a designated area but required to be peripatetic between several work locations. Take responsibility and ownership of completion of tasks to achieve contract KPIs.

Main duties
  • Log and record all statutory requirements and maintain up to date records.
  • Manage first line response to any associated service request.
  • Facilitate first time response and effect a permanent fix wherever possible.
  • Carry out safe isolations in accordance with MITIE guidelines.
  • Generate reports to the helpdesk where escalation is appropriate.
  • Undertake technical tasks to check plant equipment, maintaining fault logs.
  • Undertake Preventative Planned Maintenance (PPM) tasks, and log and record results.
  • Test electrical appliances to standard frequencies (PAT).
  • Replace tubes, lamps and lamp fittings.
  • Carry out minor adaptations to the environment, e.g. put up shelves, notice boards, etc.
  • Carry out regular testing of intruder, fire and panic alarms and arrange repairs where appropriate.
  • Unblock sinks and drains as required.
  • Repair leaks, fit new tap washers, repair ballcocks, etc.
  • Minor decoration and refurbishment.
  • Adjust doors, tighten hinges, change or fit locks and door closers.
  • Erect shelves, coat racks and assemble flat‑packed furniture.
  • Liaise with building occupants to resolve maintenance issues.
  • Liaise with other MITIE employees on site to ensure normal building operations are not disrupted.
  • Receive deliveries, sign paperwork and pass to consignee where appropriate.
  • Ensure contractors are properly identified and that appropriate provisions are made for safe working (permit to work).
  • Liaise with Emergency Services and alarm companies for all intruder and fire alarm activations, arranging for emergency boarding‑up or other repairs as required.
  • Hold site master key and bank of slave keys for all sites where appropriate.
  • Prevent unauthorised access and parking.
  • Coordinate fire and bomb evacuations according to procedures in liaison with FM.
  • Ensure all building occupants comply with Health and Safety legislation.
  • Undertake risk assessments and method statements for all operations falling within the scope of the job.
  • Conduct regular building walk inspections (including all elements of service delivery).
  • Test emergency lighting and arrange repairs when necessary.
  • Undertake porterage duties where appropriate.
  • Ensure all waste is removed appropriately.
  • Undertake minor and major office moves, liaising with FM and Moves teams.
  • Participate with and promote recycling.
  • Ensure paths are safe and kept free from ice and snow where appropriate.
  • Keep grounds free from litter, including small landscaping tasks.
  • Perform any other duties of a similar nature as required by the Facilities Management Team.
