Job summary

Expedia Group in London, UK, seeks an experienced iOS engineer to advance the Expedia Group Design System with strong UI/UX focus and multi-module architecture.

You will mentor junior engineers, lead complex iOS projects, and apply an AI-first approach using Claude Code to accelerate development and share best practices across teams. This is a full-time, on-site role based in London.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or master's degree or equivalent experience.
• 5+ years with a Bachelor's degree.
• 3+ years with a Master's degree.
• Strong proficiency with Swift, SwiftUI, and Xcode.
• Proficient with AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Claude Code).
• Experience maintaining production projects, bug fixing and monitoring.
• Experience writing unit tests and debugging with monitoring tools.
• Proficiency with Git.
• Experience with design systems.
• Knowledge of advanced iOS technology and Apple platforms.

Salary: £49,000 - 77,000 per year

Requirements:

• Bachelors or Masters degree, or equivalent experience; technical degree preferred
• 5+ years with a Bachelors degree
• 3+ years with a Masters degree
• Strong proficiency with Swift, SwiftUI, and Xcode
• Proficient with AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Claude Code) as a core, daily part of the engineering workflow
• Experience maintaining and running multiple projects/products in production environments, including bug fixing, troubleshooting, and monitoring
• Experience writing unit tests, creating testable code, and debugging issues using monitoring tools
• Proficiency with version control systems, such as Git
• Experience using, and ideally contributing to, design systems
• Demonstrated knowledge of advanced and relevant iOS technology
• Comfortable working with several forms of Apple mobile technologies, including different form factors, widgets, and Apple Watch
• Strong understanding of software design principles, data structures, design patterns, and computer science fundamentals
• Knowledge of API/schema design principles to solve data requirements for iOS experiences

Responsibilities:

• Improve existing systems on our Expedia Group Design System (EGDS) team using iOS engineering knowledge
• Advocate for the value engineering adds to the design lifecycle
• Mentor more junior engineers
• Lead complex, well-defined projects that deliver high-quality UI patterns and experiences for travelers and suppliers across Expedia Group
• Apply an AI-first approach to problem-solving, using tools such as Claude Code to accelerate development and share best practices with the team
• Lead design and engineering reviews and enforce accessibility and performance budgets within the iOS design system
• Implement sophisticated UI interactions, animations, and transitions, with a strong understanding of layout and screen flow
• Select appropriate technology and iOS design patterns to implement solutions across multi-module systems
• Lead cross-team discussions and align on outcomes when projects span team boundaries
• Own high-level design for multi-module iOS systems
• Test, monitor, debug, and fix issues within established SLAs
• Build tracing across modules and lead root-cause debugging efforts
• Design easily testable and observable software
• Monitor, instrument, and troubleshoot performance metrics, including frame rate, memory usage, and battery optimization
• Lead roadmap tradeoffs across a feature set, weighing sequencing and risk against business needs
• Identify business problems at the project level and provide solutions
• Design how applications integrate with the underlying iOS platform, including offline-ready flows and caching
• Collaborate with UX designers, engineers, and product managers to develop new and improved user experiences and interactions
• Lead team workshops and coach engineers on design and delivery practices
• Continually seek new technical skills and share knowledge with the team
• Develop and test complex or non-routine software applications to ensure they meet design requirements
• Produce clean, maintainable, optimized, modular code with good naming conventions
• Apply API/schema design principles to solve data requirements for iOS experiences
• Use software frameworks effectively to write simpler code
• Lead and clarify code evolution in code reviews
• Develop prototypes to influence strategy and advise on technical limitations
• Identify opportunities to increase efficiency across the feature set or module
• Take an iOS-centric approach to analyzing issues and identify structure, people, process, and technology components
• Compile and report on major operational or technical initiatives, such as root cause analyses, to larger groups
