Job summary

Artic Building Services Limited is seeking a Mobile Chiller Engineer to join our field service team in London and surrounding areas. You will travel to client sites to service a range of chiller systems, ensuring preventative maintenance and rapid fault resolution.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years' experience, holds F-Gas Cat 1, and a valid UK driving licence. You will diagnose faults, optimise performance, and maintain clear client communication while complying with safety regs.

Qualifications

  • Relevant vocational qualification in Refrigeration & Air Conditioning (NVQ 2/3 or equivalent).
  • F-Gas Category 1 certification is essential.
  • Minimum 5 years' field experience as a Chiller Engineer on commercial/industrial systems.
  • Full, clean UK Driving Licence is essential.
  • Strong knowledge of refrigeration cycles, HVAC principles, and electrical controls.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct preventative maintenance on diverse chiller systems (air/ water-cooled, absorption, adiabatic).
  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and refrigeration faults; perform effective repairs (compressors, condensers, evaporators, controls).
  • Carry out F-Gas leak detection, recovery and recharging per regulations.
  • Identify opportunities for system optimisation and efficiency improvements; advise clients on upgrades.
  • Liaise with clients, explain work performed, identify further required works, build relationships.
  • Complete service reports, timesheets, expense submissions, and admin tasks via mobile tech.
  • Adhere to health and safety regulations (LOLER, PUWER, confined spaces, working at height).
  • Participate in on-call rota (every 14 weeks).
  • Provide guidance to junior technicians or apprentices.

Job Description:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experiencedMobile Chiller Engineer to join our dynamic field service team. This role is crucial to our operations, involving travel to various client sites to provide expert support for a wide range of chiller systems. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, technically proficient, customer-focused, and possess excellent problem-solving abilities.

Key Responsibilities:

Preventative Maintenance (PPM):Conduct routine preventative maintenance on diverse chiller systems, including air-cooled, water-cooled, absorption, and adiabatic chillers, to ensure optimal performance and longevity.

Fault Diagnosis & Repair:Diagnose complex mechanical, electrical, and refrigeration faults efficiently and accurately, performing effective repairs on components such as compressors, condensers, evaporators, control systems, pumps, and pipework.

F-Gas Management:Carry out F-Gas leak detection, recovery, and recharging in strict compliance with current F-Gas regulations and environmental standards.

System Optimisation:Proactively identify opportunities for system optimisation and efficiency improvements, advising clients on best practices and potential upgrades.

Client Interaction:Liaise professionally and directly with clients, providing clear explanations of work carried out, identifying any further required works, and building strong working relationships.

Documentation & Reporting:Complete accurate service reports, timesheets, expense submissions, and other administrative tasks promptly and efficiently, utilizing mobile technology.

Health & Safety:Adhere strictly to all company and site-specific health and safety regulations, including risk assessments and method statements.

On-Call Rota:Participate in an out-of-hours on-call rota for emergency breakdowns as required which is currently every 14 weeks.

Technical Support:Provide technical guidance and support to junior technicians or apprentices when appropriate.

Required Qualifications & Experience:

Education:Relevant vocational qualification (e.g., NVQ Level 2/3 in Refrigeration & Air Conditioning, City & Guilds 2079, or equivalent).

F-Gas Certification:Current F-Gas Category 1 certification (essential).

Experience:Minimum 5 years of demonstrable experience as a Chiller Engineer or similar field-based role, with a strong track record of working on various commercial and industrial chiller manufacturers.

Driving Licence:Full, clean UK Driving Licence (essential).

Technical Knowledge:Strong understanding of refrigeration cycles, thermodynamics, electrical control systems, and HVAC principles.

Diagnostic Skills:Proven ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical drawings to diagnose faults.

Safety:A solid understanding of health and safety legislation pertinent to the role (e.g., LOLER, PUWER, confined spaces, working at height).

Desirable Qualifications & Skills:

17th/18th Edition IET Wiring Regulations.

IOSH or NEBOSH safety qualifications.

CSCS Card, IPAF, PASMA certification.

Experience with building management systems (BMS) and controls.

Familiarity with absorption chillers.
