Job summary

The University of Sheffield is seeking a Research Assistant to help us predict Strep A outbreaks using machine learning. You will gather and harmonise datasets, develop models in Python and/or R, and evaluate their predictive performance to generate early-warning signals for clinicians and public health teams.

Working across disciplines, you will collaborate with clinicians and an engineering team, ensure reproducible analysis, and contribute to a tool with real potential to protect people.

Qualifications

• Degree in a quantitative subject (data science, engineering, maths, epidemiology) or equivalent.
• Strong programming skills in Python and/or R.
• Solid grasp of core machine learning methods and reproducible analysis.

Responsibilities

• Combine real-world datasets and build/evaluate ML models for early-warning signals.
• Collaborate with clinicians and an engineering team to translate analysis into a usable tool.
• Communicate results clearly to non-technical stakeholders and document workflows.
