Mission Systems Technician

Department: Systems

Employment Type: Permanent

Location: Gamston Airport, Retford

Reporting To: Jez Staples

Compensation: £34,000 - £37,000 / year

Description

You will maintain, manage, modify and update the aircraft mission systems to ensure the maximum serviceability for the operational crews. This involves both the on and off aircraft activities building, installing and testing the mission systems; including cameras, radars and satellite communications with the associated mission computer connections/integration alongside the software specialists. New Mission system design, fabrication and installation in conjunction with the Part-145 engineers to keep DEA competitive and current in the ISR arena

Key Responsibilities
  • Carry out scheduled maintenance on aircraft Mission Systems
  • Install, configure, test and maintain operating systems, applications, systems management tools and cloud infrastructure within the laboratory environment
  • Update electronic logs of mission system equipment and ensure it is accurately tracked
  • Perform network maintenance and system upgrades including remote fixes, patches, hot fixes and security configurations
  • Perform scheduled maintenance/upgrades on removed mission systems
  • Provide Level 2 / 3 support and troubleshooting to resolve issues
  • Deploy when required to recover mission systems off site under the supervision of B2 Engineers as required
  • Work closely with B2 Engineers supporting the mission system installation and continuing airworthiness of the DEA ISR fleet.
  • Conduct bench filter testing of systems assets in the Systems Integration Lab (SIL)
  • Assist with the design, fabrication and installation of new aircraft mission systems from inception to full aircraft release; in conjunction with the design and Part-145 engineers
  • Provide out-of-hours Mission System support (on an on‑call rota)
  • Ensure that all maintenance performed is in accordance with regulatory and company requirements.
  • Complete technical training courses as available and in agreement with the company’s strategy
  • Ensure that all tasks are carried out with the DEA H&S policy paramount in mind.
  • Carry out any other tasks as and when assigned by the Mission Systems Operations Manager
Skills, Knowledge & Expertise

Essential requirements/Qualifications:

  • Degree in related Engineering subject or suitable Avionics/Mission Systems experience gained in a workplace environment; would suit ex‑military aircraft avionics engineers with IT experience
  • Full driving licence
  • SC clearance or clean DBS record to support application for SC
