Job description

Overview

Join to apply for the Mission and Satellite Design Engineer role at NewOrbit Space.

NewOrbit is engineering the lowest-orbiting satellites on Earth to rapidly advance global connectivity and insight. Our engineering teams are tackling one of the toughest challenges in the field: building satellites that can breathe air and operate at an altitude of just 200 km. We are seeking engineers who excel at solving unprecedented challenges to deliver impact through satellite technology.

Your Role

You have previously been involved in building satellites and missions that are currently flying in space. You will work alongside our mechanical and electronics engineers to ensure the success of our first mission. You should be capable of delivering a mission design from scratch and taking full ownership of it.

Key Responsibilities
  • Leverage deep expertise in at least one satellite subsystem (e.g., attitude control, electronics design, structures, thermal control, flight dynamics) to refine our mission design.
  • Run orbital analysis (GMAT, STK), RF link analysis, mass and power budgets, redundancy planning, single-point failure studies, operations, ground segments, space environments, and satellite mechanical and electrical architectures.
  • Oversee major tests required to achieve space readiness.
  • Maintain basic knowledge of all satellite subsystems with a focus on mission design and systems engineering.
  • Involve in building several satellites or missions from scratch that are currently operating in space.
  • Experience in propulsion system integration.
Why NewOrbit

Pioneering Space Technology Join NewOrbit and contribute to launching groundbreaking technology into space. Your work on our air-breathing ion propulsion system will redefine satellite operations in ultra-low Earth orbits.

Ownership and Impact At NewOrbit, you will participate in the full lifecycle of satellite technology with high levels of ownership.

Equity and Competitive Salary NewOrbit offers competitive salaries and company ownership stakes, with a share in the technology you help build.

Application Process

Our interview process consists of four stages. The initial stage involves a call with Alex, followed by two interviews with the founders, Anatolii and Ruslan. If you progress, you will complete a set of technical tasks to be discussed in the final interview. If feasible, you may be invited to our facilities in Reading for a final interview to meet the team and tour our laboratories and office spaces.
