Job description

At ClearSpace, we believe in reusability, in affordability driving disruption, and that no progress is real unless it is sustainable.

Our company was founded in 2018 out of the realization that in-orbit servicing and space debris removal are vital services for the future of space exploration and operations. Today ClearSpace has assembled an expert engineering team and is leading the way toward sustainable space operations. From a garage in Switzerland, we now operate across UK and Europe, and are working with world-leading institutions and companies to bring our dream of a sustainable space ecosystem to life.

We are looking for a Mission Analysis Engineer to join our team who will work on both our current missions and future projects.

The Role

We have an exciting opportunity for a Mission Engineer to join our Mission and Systems Engineering Team. The successful candidate will participate in the mission design, mission level verification activities, and operation for current and future ClearSpace missions. Our ideal candidate is a dynamic team player who is a self-starter and is passionate about the future of in-orbit servicing!

Key responsibilities
  • Identifying, analysing and deriving technical, programmatic and business requirements, constraints and assumptions impacting future ClearSpace missions, performing or participating in high-level trade-offs on mission profiles and key technologies,
  • Modelling and analysing orbits, main mission phases and key mission parameters (manoeuvres and deltaV, launch injection, in-orbit safety and re‑entry analyses, etc…), for both low‑thrust and high‑thrust trajectories,
  • Defining Concepts of Operations (CONOPs) and Operations Plans,
  • Performing environmental analysis: thermal, radiation and illumination,
  • Performing space debris mitigation and in-orbit safety compliance analyses,
  • Defining and participating in the verification activities, and later supporting the flight dynamics team,
  • Interfacing with customers, partners and subcontractors,
  • Defining and supporting tools development and validation,
  • Support writing proposals for future business.
Must Have
  • 2 to 5 years’ experience in mission engineering or flight dynamics within the space industry or space agencies;
  • Knowledge of flight and orbital mechanics for high and low thrust trajectories;
  • Excellent communication skills to interface with our internal engineering teams;
  • Comfortable interacting with customers, bothinstitutional (UKSA, ESA) and commercial.
  • BSc Degree in Aerospace, Engineering, Mechatronics, Physics or similar
Nice to have
  • Experience in spacecraft operations, desired but not essential;
  • Research activities in astrodynamics are welcome;
  • Knowledge of ECSS standards;
  • Knowledge of common industry space debris mitigation standards and compliance verification;
  • Knowledge of rendezvous and proximity operations;
  • Experience of obtaining mission operations licenses and interacting with regulatory bodies;
  • Familiarity with the full space program lifecycle, from business development, proposal generation and contract negotiations, all the way through design, development, assembly, test, and successful delivery.
  • MSc Degree in Aerospace, Engineering, Mechatronics, Physics or similar
