Job Overview

Our nurse led Minor Injury Unit at Royal Gwent Hospital and Ysbyty Ystrad Fawr is looking for an enthusiastic nurse who is experienced in triage. Successful applicants must hold a valid Manchester Triage Certificate. This post would also suit those emergency nurses who would like the future opportunity to develop into an emergency nurse practitioner (ENP). Many of our experienced triage nurses follow this pathway. Successful applicants must be able to work between both sites.

Main duties of the job
  • Carry out focused assessments and prioritising a patient’s clinical condition by utilising established guidelines for the purpose of providing immediate care if the patient requires it.
  • Actively redirect patients to alternative health care services whose presenting problem falls outside of the scope of the service and discharging patients under established protocols.
  • Manage and communicate with patients in the waiting area and provide education to patients and families when necessary.
  • Communicate status of patients to Emergency Nurse Practitioners (ENPs) and supporting patients requiring inter-hospital transfer.
  • Provide minor injury treatments and care.
  • Act in accordance with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct.
  • Participate in the education, development and supervision of other staff members.
