Job Description

As an Armed Forces Military Typist at Merville Barracks, Colchester, we are seeking a skilled and reliable Military Typist to join our team. This role involves transcribing sensitive and sometimes distressing material, including statements, interviews, and photographic evidence. High accuracy, speed, and professionalism are essential.

Key Responsibilities
  • Transcribe handwritten statements and Police audio/visual interviews onto electronic proforma forms.
  • Assist with administrative tasks, including mail management, report collation, and telephone enquiries.
  • Deputise for the Administrator as required to ensure smooth unit operations.
  • Maintain confidentiality and high professional standards at all times.
Essential Requirements
  • RSA Level III or Civil Service equivalent typing speed; audio typing experience desirable.
  • Advanced word processing skills, excellent grammar and spelling.
  • Ability to work in a small team under pressure and handle confidential material.
  • Polite, professional manner and Security Check (SC) clearance.
Desirable
  • Knowledge of military terms and abbreviations.
  • Sensitive, adaptable, and professional approach to confidential work.
