Job summary

Northern Care Alliance NHS Foundation Trust in Greater Manchester is seeking a Band 7 specialist in third-trimester ultrasound and advanced midwifery care to support complex pregnancies with autonomous clinical assessment and timely interpretation of ultrasound findings.

You will lead expert ultrasound reporting, contribute to service development, governance, audit, and staff education, and act as a resource for multidisciplinary teams to ensure safe, person-centred maternity care.

Job description

This Band 7 role provides specialist third-trimester ultrasound assessment and advanced midwifery care, supporting the management of complex pregnancies through expert clinical practice, the timely interpretation of ultrasound findings, and effective multidisciplinary collaboration. The post holder will undertake autonomous practice, contributing to the early identification, monitoring, and management of fetal growth concerns and other pregnancy complications.

The role contributes to service development, quality improvement, audit, clinical governance, and staff education, ensuring the delivery of safe, effective, person-centred, and evidence-based maternity care. The post holder will act as a specialist resource for colleagues, supporting learning, professional development, and the continuous improvement of maternity services.

Strategy

Provide expert leadership in third-trimester obstetric ultrasound and advanced midwifery practice, delivering high-quality, evidence-based care within maternity services. Undertake autonomous assessment and reporting of third-trimester ultrasound examinations, supporting the identification, monitoring, and management of fetal growth concerns and other pregnancy complications.

Act as a specialist resource for the multidisciplinary team, ensuring the timely escalation of abnormal findings and contributing to coordinated care planning for women with complex needs. Support the effective operational delivery of the ultrasound service through caseload management, prioritisation of urgent referrals, and the efficient utilisation of resources.

Contribute to service development, clinical governance, audit, research, and quality improvement initiatives, promoting best practice across maternity services. Support the development of colleagues, students, and learners through education, supervision, and mentorship, while maintaining the highest standards of patient-centred care in all maternity settings.
