Job summary

University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a motivated Midwife Clinical Educator (Band 6) for a 12-month fixed term/secondment. The role is part-time (22.5 hours per week) across two sites, with clinical shifts and Monday–Friday day hours, including Study Day facilitation.

You will lead preceptorship, induction programmes and education activity to ensure evidence-based training for both new and existing staff. UK registration and Band 6 competencies are essential.

  • Evidence of band 6 competencies (suturing, cannulation, IV therapy) may be required.
  • Part‑time role involving 22.5 hours per week with occasional longer days.

Responsibilities

  • Teach and facilitate learning for a wide range of staff within maternity services.
  • Offer clinical and pastoral support to newly qualified midwives.
  • Organise induction programs and liaise with departments for planning.
  • Support introduction of new equipment, pathways of care and audits.
  • Lead on projects and collaborate with nursing, AHPs and clinical skills teams.

Here’s more about the role and what we’re looking for;

Job overview

We are looking for highly motivated and enthusiastic midwives to join the practice development team as a Clinical Educators. This role will include mandatory and essential to role training, service activity, preceptorship programmes and clinical placements in line with Trust policies, procedures and national guidelines. Supporting new staff through the preceptorship and induction programmes and provide access to education and training to ensure both new and existing staff maintain required skills and competencies. Ensure training is evidence based and updated annually.

The successful candidate will have demonstrable experience and be up to date and confident with all clinical skills.

We have three wards across two sites, with a total of 88 beds for antenatal, postnatal and induction of labour.

At Royal Derby Hospital there are:

  • 17 delivery rooms including one pool room and bereavement suite.
  • Four bedded Midwife led birth centre.
  • Four bedded Obstetric Enhanced Care area and a two bedded assessment bay

At Queens Hospital Burton there are:

  • 7 delivery rooms including one pool room and one bereavement suite.
Main duties of the job
  • Teach and facilitate learning of a wide range of staff from MCA's, MSW's, midwives and the multi‑professional team in line with the Maternity Incentive Scheme and Core Competency Framework
  • Offer clinical and pastoral support to newly qualified midwives.
  • Organise induction programs for a wide range of staff and liaise with the various departments within University Hospitals of Derby and Burton(UHDB) essential to the planning of such programs.
  • Support introduction of new equipment, pathways of care, guidance, assist with audit and lead on various projects.
  • Liaise with the professional development teams from nursing, AHP's and clinical skills.
