Job summary

Studham Village CofE Academy is seeking a lunch supervisor to supervise pupils in the lunch area, playground, and classrooms during wet play, ensuring orderly conduct and safe eating practices.

The role includes setting up lunch areas, monitoring health and safety, delivering basic first aid, and reporting concerns to senior staff. You will also support pupils with dietary needs and help manage behaviour and playtime activities.

Responsibilities

• Supervise pupils in lunch area, playground and classrooms (wet play)
• Encourage pupils to eat and monitor eating, reporting concerns to the class teacher
• Monitor pupils not engaging in play and feed back concerns to class teachers
• Set up and put away tables, chairs and equipment for lunch
• Manage pupils’ entrance and exit from the lunch area in an orderly manner
• Clean up food and water spillages
• Observe pupils and environment to minimise health and safety risks
• Deliver first aid for minor incidents; refer major incidents to a qualified first aider
• Record incidents in line with the school’s reporting procedures
• Be aware of and support pupils with medical/dietary needs
• Promote the school’s healthy-eating policy to pupils
• Feed back health and safety concerns to a senior staff member
• Report serious misbehaviour to the relevant staff per policy
• Take action to minimise disruption and harm to pupils
• Ensure children tidy up after themselves in lunch and play areas
• Follow directions from class teachers to support pupils with challenging behaviour
• Organise play activities to encourage use of play equipment
• Provide short educational guidance to help share play equipment
• Help resolve issues between pupils during play
• Work within the School safeguarding policy and report concerns to named people
• Maintain confidentiality of school-related matters
• Follow safeguarding guidance (Keeping Children Safe in Education, Prevent) and policies
• Promote safeguarding of all pupils in the school
• Read and follow relevant school policies
• Undertake training required to develop in the role
• Uphold and model school values

Feed back concerns relating to pupils’ health and safety to a senior member of staff

Behaviour

Report any incidents of serious misbehaviour to the relevant staff member, in line with the school’s behaviour policy

Take necessary action to minimise disruption and harm to pupils, in line with the school’s behaviour policy

Make sure children tidy up after themselves in the lunch area and when using play resources/equipment

Follow any directions from class teachers on supporting specific pupils with challenging behaviour

Play

Organise play activities to encourage pupils to play and make use of play equipment

Offer educational instruction where needed to help pupils to share play equipment

Help to resolve issues between pupils during play activities

Safeguarding

Work within the School ‘Safeguarding’ policy and report any concerns to the named people responsible

Maintain confidentiality at all times in respect of school-related matters and to prevent disclosure of confidential and sensitive information.

Work in line with statutory safeguarding guidance (e.g. Keeping Children Safe in Education, Prevent) and our safeguarding and child protection policies

Promote the safeguarding of all pupils in the school

Other areas of responsibility

Read and follow the relevant school policies

Undertake training required to develop in the role

Uphold and model the values of the school.
